First went to Le Mans in 1965 and did straight 18 years with only one missed race when the Ickx GT 40 won from the Porsche by seconds.
Saw the Jagswin in 1988 but was probably the only englishman who wanted Porsche / Derek bell to win.
Returning this year with my two sons!

Wish I were there! The machines run at Le Mans are some of the
most beautifully designed, awe-inspiring race cars on the planet.
Your site is great for those of us who would love to be there but
can't, and who suffer a dearth of European racing news on our
prolific but racing-pathetic media (golf - lots of golf).

For selfish reasons, I'll be pulling for the BMW-powered machines -
I just acquired a '95 (North America spec) M3 six months ago and have
fantasies of running it on the tracks and 'rings of Europe.

the mystery about the domestic arrangments and more importantly
given a taste of the passion that is the 24 Hour Lemans race.
Many Thanks

See you there

Hi there,
I'm South African but currently working for my company here in
Germany. I came across the Club Arnage page on the web and thought I
should mail you as I'm keen on going , but as a first timer and also
the fact that I have never been to France makes me hesitant to do this.
I would like to know if there are still tickets available. From my
experiences visiting other major motor racing events its better
to mingle with the old timers and people that know , than buying a grand
stand ticket and sit there on your own. You then may as well stay home
watch tele and enjoy a few cold ones in comfort. The main reason for
the fact that I would rather sit with a bunch of guys from the UK is
because of the language , I cannot speak a word of French and from what
I heard they do not like most foreign speaking people (This may be a
generalisation but still I would have a battle communicating).
Anyone that would welcome a lonely South African motor racing fan in
their midst will be a friend forever.
Regards
Chris Liebenberg

09-06-98 What have I been doing for the last X years. How could I claim to be a motorsport fanatic without having been? Just returned
not my first year and certainly not my last.

Great site
if I didn't have a well experienced 'brother-in-law' the site would have given me the crucial information for the event.

My final comment is that something should be done about the 'rip-off' beer keller in the village. The notorious establishment where a waiter takes your order
returns with a stien of beer and demands 160ff because you are buying the glass as well as the beer.

A cautionary announcment on Radio Le Mans (bless their souls) would reduce the problem.

Can't wait until next year.

Great to see the fans in the U.K. are so committed to racing. Over here in the U. S. A. we have Tony George
who ruined the Indianapolis 500
and a lot of confusion over the future of sportscars. If any of the fans over there make it to the U.S.A. for The 24 hours of Daytona or the Sebring 12 hours
have them look for the "Wild Thang"
an ancient school bus overflowing with inebriated race fans. Most of the people on the bus
despite being competent professionals in real life
will have no idea about Club Arnage
unless I remember to tell them
but they will welcome visitors who enjoy racing and beer as much as they do. I will look forward to visiting your web site in the future and hope to make it to LeMans when my wife gives me the money.

Good afternoon gentlemen

I was there
and what can I say
what an experience
what a thrill
even the wheather was perfect
a little for everybody
rain / wind / sunshine
a little for every taste.
I was in the Arnage corner/straight and was excited
what a race.
On my way back to Norway from a business thing in Brest
I decided to stop by Le Mans
a wee bit out of the way
but not much
and I arrived on the 4th and stayed until the 7th afternoon. What an experience.
By the way
how can I purchase one or three (for my sons) of the good looking "caps" ( ala base ball caps) I saw many people wearing them but not where to buy them.
COD
of course.
Gentlemen
this was the ultimate race
and I lift my hat for the Chrysler Le Mans radio coverage
very good.
best regards

Thank you for the live Le Mans '98 Coverage!!! Having no
other way to stay up on the race, it was a real pleasure
to read the live updates, view the photos and note the
finish.

A great effort and much appreciated.

Best regards,

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your tireless coverage of the race and all events preceding it.
In the states, most of us are without any coverage of the race via TV. One
satelite only channel carried 15 hours of racing for those lucky few that
receive it. I was not among that number but your splendid reports made me
feel as if I were there. Bravo for a job very well done!

Thanks again,

Russ Chadwell

I thoroughly enjoyed your coverage. The reports were entertaining and
informative, the contrast in styles between the club and sportscar is
interesting.

I will pass the word. See you next year.

Gentlemen,

Just wanted to tell you 'Thanks' for your well-designed site. I had
been watching LeMans on TV with some friends until late last night
when sleep finally took over. This morning I got on the Web to
check for results. The Yahoo/Reuters news didn't have it in 'top
stories' or even in 'sports' (!) Yahoo's search facility gave me
the "official" site, the BMW site, a "Sarthe" site, and your site.
Offical site: Nice if you have a 100 Mbit connection and Java.
(I still use a 14.4 modem.) BMW site: Nice if you have a 57.6
or ISDN. Sarthe site: didn't vist. Your site: very simple text
lists and links, with small background images. A few clicks later
I was looking at the results grid, which was what I wanted in the
first place! Thanks again for keeping it simple, direct, and
informative!

We are members of the Jaguar Car Club (I being the Club Treasurer!) and a
number of us members stay together down in the Sarthe for a long weekend

in the Visitors Book was dated Last JUNE!!! Obviously most "fans" forget

Thanks for your great website. I was looking for info on LeMans winners for an
article about toy cars and I found much of what I needed. Where would
I look for a reference or book listing the rules or formula that each
race was run too. I know todays rules are complex; it would be interesting
to see how and why they have evolved since the 50's.

When was the last "LeMans start", my son Brian (11) asks? He thinks
they should bring that back!

Hello and Happy New Year for '99.
I am just one of the many dedicated fans from Jersey, who travel every
year to the worlds number one motorsport event. I'd also like to say
hi to all the people we've met over the years.
My advice to anyone who is thinking of going for the first time is to
go for it! I can guarantee you'll be back year after year.
See you all at the 'AUX PORTES DU CIRCUIT' on friday night.

greetings (10 Jan 99) --
I am planning to attend the 24H du Mans race in '99.
Would like to attend the race with some other people, I am a 'newbie'
to the LeMans event, & am hoping to avoid traveling, camping,
etc., by myself - especially on my first visit. Would share expenses.
Will be travelling from USA (Calif); could meet up with others
pretty much anywhere convenient (ie. UK, France, or elsewhere),
since I haven't made any travel arrangements yet.

Drop me an email & I will send along more info. about myself, allow
a few days for me to respond.

mike
ps. Great web page(s)! Loved the pictures, info. on attending, etc.
Looking forward to seeing the race this year.

Simon Sharp (cfbsjs@altavista.net) on Sat Feb 13 16:52:56 GMT 1999

First thanks to the guys who stopped and helped when our track rod end dropped
out at Alencon. If you are around in 99 call for a beer on Friday night.
We'll be in the blue car park hopefully in the same Sherpa van. (MOT is next week)

For those travelling Dover/calais. the A16 via Boulogne is now
open. From Calais follow signs to Boulogne and then to Amiens. Autoroute is
payage (cost98 43FF) to Amiens. Then pick up free autoroute to Rouen (signposted Rouen).
At Rouen remeber to stay in nearside (right hand) lane as you enter the tunnel.
Coming out of the tunnel, cross the river and turn back under. Follow this road
around outside of Rouen following signs for Le mans. coming onto Paris/Cherbourg
autoroute take second exit (Signposted Le mans). When you come to the petrol
station you turn left. This is a cross roads and is not very well signposted.
(in fact not at all I've almost missed it twice)

You are now on the RN138 to Le Mans. Skirt round Alencon and keep on Running!

There are several towns from here on in with small supermarche/hypermarche.
All have automatic cash machines and take UK cards for groceries and petrol.

ALSO KEEP YOUR SPEED DOWN. the last 3 years have seen Radar speed traps at
the entrance to at least one village on this section on the Friday. Fines
are on the spot pay you move. If you see flashing headlamps coming the
other way this is a genuine warning.

Paul Drawmer (paul@drawmer.demon.co.uk) on Fri Feb 19 16:53:05 GMT 1999

Well, I plan to return to Le Mans after a bit of a gap. Actually I last
went in 1967, which i think was the 2nd year the GT40 won. I have snaps
of Chapparal 2F(1st winged racing car?) and the fabulous Lola Aston Martin.

This year I plan to drive down with the same guy that I hitch-hiked with
in '67, it's going to be a boys week out, don't know or care what the
girls are doing! In '67 we had a lift from two great guys who lived in
Malvern. They picked us up, drove us to the circuit, and let us sleep
under their Sunbeam Rapier, then gave us a lift all the way back to
Maidstone in Kent. Don't remember their names, but if they read this...
(Oh well, you never know). The Rapier had a dodgy overdrive - it only
worked as freewheel.

I belong to the BMW Car Club (GB). There wil also be a contingent from
our M-Power section going, look out for us, and I will be in my Z1
(A chance to drive it on the correct side of the road - it's a left hooker)

See you there folks.
look me up here..
