Greetings from Pennsylvania,USA

Wonderful site!!!

Found it in WEB Magazine (06/97) and took a peek as I have always
wondered at the thrill of a race such as Le Mans. I have a friend
(non-computer type person) who will be truely amazed at what you
have here. I cannot wait to introduce him.
again,GREAT SITE and I'll be back.

djco34@ix.netcom.com

p/s: I now think I may want to plan to come to Le Mans
with my wife for the race and a visit to FRANCE.

see you...

Thank whatever passes for God this week that someone's done this.
Hard to get int'l sportscar info in the `States...hard to get domestic
info here, for that matter. Most Americans can't drive well, don't understand
car control (country's so big that trains/buses can't do it all, so we
let idiots drive..) so they like ovals only...I wanna go! Steve McQueen's film is a legend here among
road racers...been in love w/the Sarthe ever since. Any hints for getting
there from across the Atlantic welcomed at my e-mail address.

Press Release: Team Le Per - 240 Heures du Mans

Le Per Racing is assembling a squad for an assault on the
1997 Le Mans 24 hour endurance race.

Le Per Racing's commitment to Le Mans is as legendary as the event
itself. In the past 10 years, the team has campaigned many famous
marques including:

Jaguar, Caterham, TVR, Ford, MG, Triumph, Mercedes, Fiat, AC.

The team's antics on and off the track are worthy of many a volume and
this year sees the tenth anniversary celebration of the possibly the
naughtiest team ever to make the trip to La Sarthe.

Le Per's first appearance at Le Mans in 1988 was a somewhat low key affair,
the youthful, inexperienced outfit having to come to terms with the
challenging conditions of an endurance event with minimal preparation.
The Team's machinery was as dated as their haircuts and dress sense -
the Ford 'Tina Surfboard, whilst a useful support wagon, made little
impact on the race with its smoking exhaust; the team's MG entrant
almost failed to make it to the ferry and had reliability problems
throughout; the side's honour was upheld by their rusty Spitfire
which made it on to the circuit 24 hours before the race and almost
ended up in the gravel at Dunlop Bridge whilst going the wrong way
around the circuit.

Ten years on, Le Per are back with a vengeance.

At the Team's workshops, much work is going into preparation of the
1997 challengers. Whilst the team missed the pre-qualifying session,
hopes are still high that the legend of Le Per will be seen again on
the hallowed tarmac of the Mulsanne and the drag strips of "du Houx".

Look out for Team Le Per - at a campsite near you.

A Juin. Le Per Racing.

Living on the west coast of Canada I never hear or see a word about Le Mans; what
a disgrace. In the fifties and sixties I could hear HOURLY reports on BBC radio
and frequent clips in TV. Is that still the case over there or has BBC abandoned
motor racing?

Le Mans is one of those experiences that you don't forget in a hurry.
One point of etiquette I should mention is the Friday night attitude.
I have never encountered such a freindly atmosphere anywhere else, to
be included in any revelry, simply take along one or two cases of beer
to any large gathering of people, and make some freinds for life!
It's amazing how many people keep coming back, and to exactly the same
spot as well. This will be my 4th visit and there is still plenty of
the track that I haven't seen.

Went to the Race last year for the first time after years of making plans.
Went with a fellow slotracer and din't miss a minute. We called it the 39
hours of Le Mans (15.00+ 24.00) . Coming back again with a group of 8 after
all our stories, pictures, and videotapes. Already getting into the
atmosphere by loooking back the old tapes and BPR GT series at Eurosport
and reports on Daytona and Sebring.

Two weeks until we leave for this years pilgrimage to the greatest event
in the world. I'm on my 14th trip. Bad news about the Houx campsite, why
can't the French leave things alone. Only managed to watch 2 laps last year
, alcohol induced, we have vowed to at least try and watch 3 laps this year.
We also have tickets for the Welcome Area ( it has the cleanest bogs in
France) This gives access to the roof of the tower at the end of the pit
straight, the view is fantastic. Tickets for unlimited access are about
Ł20 See you all down there !!!!

I went first to Le Mans in 95, had a great time even though it pee'd down
for most of the actual race. I went lest year as part of my 'Stag Tour'
which included other famous places such as Southport and Cambridge (where
I live).
Thanks for putting the page together, especially the new updates, it's
great to know that so many British entries are in this year - shame there's
no Jags again though.

Keep up the good work, and maybe bump into you. I'll mail you a pic of me
there last year in Tete Rouge.

Le Mans has a special meaning, the first time I attended 5 years ago with
my brother Ewan and some friends from the Westfield club. I left my
pregnant wife behind with baby due in 4-6weeks only to be told on the
Saturday night of the race I was a dad! He was 4 days old by the time
we got back and still did not have a name but the minute I saw him his
name hade to be Derek after the winning driver. As you can expect I have
not been allowed back since. But I am planning to make a visit soon
once he's big enough to appreciate it. Anybody out there that was with
us e-mail me tell me how your getting on. Can only watch on tv, but who
watches the race anyway?

but look forward to returning to this one as the race gets underway
later today.

Many thanks for a great service. Us poor folk who have to stay back in
England can follow the action thanks to you (and you are accessble -
I tried the "Official" site many times and got no reply on most of them).
Enjoy your sleep - you have earned it.

I will now have to start saving my pennies to see the same car win three
times in a row!

Thanks a bunch.

I was at Le Mans for the race, camped with a bunch of Brits. It was great
as usual. I heard your interview on radio Le Mans, and now I've checked
out your web site. Good job.

I was really pulling for the Panoz's. As an American I really feel bad,
because not one of the American V8's lasted the race. One day I hope we
make a concerted effort to win there again.

I'll be checking back often to see what you have changed or added on
the web page. If you are interested in the Celts check out my page at

Well, we got home O.K.

This was the first time since '84 that I camped at Le Mans. Regretfully we
stayed in Camping Nouveau, prevously Camping du Houx.
Were do all the low life come from?
Who deliberately takes a full disco system and turns on jungle music at
very high volume at 3.00am?
What half wit decides to drag race up the main-road (dirt & gravel) of the
camp site on Sunday evening. This was accompanied by a fool with more money
than sense who proceeded to do "dough-nuts", throwing up dust and gravel
over neighbouring cars and tents.

This was in a once nice BMW M3!!

How we all laughed when this prat damaged it against a substantial 40 gallon
oil-drum!!

Camping, never again!!

Give me the soft life in a local hotel or nothing at all.

John Dubrey

PS

The race was great, like a 24 hour sprint with loads of action.

Radio Le Mans was better than ever, especially the hilarious Jeremy Clarkson
& Tiff Needal interview. They could never say these things on the Beeb!

it on wi!

I can only agree with John Dubrey.

As a 'Virgin' I too camped.
I personally don't find air bomb repeaters, maroons etc going off
at regular intervals during the night, accompanied by very, very loud
shouting etc. particularly entertaining.
After the first night I was straight into town to find a Hotel. (Call
me soft if you like but I saw most of the race AND had a good sleep
AND had a shower!
Can anyone tell me why people think it's a measure of manhood to stack
up empty beer bottles outside your pitch?
Bleat over.

The atmosphere was very good, the racing excellent and Radio Le Mans an
absolute must (yes, you do feel a prat wandering around with a radio inside
a baseball cap but believe me, your race experience is at least halved).

If you've not been, you must. But if you like your sleep too, don't
bother even thinking about camping!

Team Le Per stole the show again (see Pete Saunders entry on visitors book)
at this years race. And to all those moaning prats who don't like cold
showers, loud music, heavy drinking and drag racing....don't come back to
Camping Nouveau (ex Houx...sadly missed). This is where the action is and
will be again next year.

Things were looking a bit dull on Sunday night until the Le Per boys
whipped up support for an excellent drag racing session which included
a Porsche Carrera 4, BMW M3 vs 535, MGB vs Spitfire and incredably a Kraut
coach...although the guy in the passengewr seat wasn't very friendly.

Bad luck to the Quattro owner who burst a tyre and ripped another off the
rim on the offroad circuit. His "pals" nicked his keys and did the damage.
Hope the 2 space saver spares got him back home!!

Come to Nouveau next year for more wild tomes and all boring farts can go
and stay in a hotel.

Matt Le Per

What a fantastic experience yet again (5th in a row) marred only by the
loss of a very much loved Charge Mazda orange cap. I don't think I
left it at the circuit, but the last time I can say for certain that I
had it was when I removed it for the first of the now becomming ritual
baptisms in Coolio, outside the Champagne Cork on Sunday afternoon -
about 2 o'clock ish. If you found this cap, or someone you know came
back from La Sarthe with it, please let me know.

Great site

I have been since 1995 , when I camped in Houx(Great fun)

Now I go along as one of about 50 British marshals , most are at the first
chicane but I am along at the second chicane on the Musanne straight.
It's a bit isolated, but I see some fast cars going rather fast!!

I heard about the site on Radio Le Mans( I see Janice has been here too)

Good race this year , but a pity all the "variety" broke so early on.
It would 've been nice to soo the Panoz/Mustang/Marcos/Corvette etc. finish

Good Lord , It looks like I went to see the racing. Shame on me
