Do you know about the camping arrangements for Le Mans 1998? This year's
organisation was typically French...extremely involved, disorganised,
and a lot of fruitless queuing. We normally stay at 'Camping Houge', but
this year we were refused entry, and ended up outside the Alain Prost
go-cart circuit. After the race had finished on Sunday, I walked through
'Camping Houge', and was not surprised to find that at least half the
available area had never been used.
Best of luck with this site, Mike Jack.

Only recently been on the 'net' so have only recently found this site.
Excellant work and unless I am in la belle France next year I'll certainly
be addicted to it.
If you are at all interested I first went to le mans in 1976 with a crowd
from my then local motor club , Hampton &DMC. Our chairman was Alain de
Cadenet so we were all fairly biased as to who our support went,. this was
about the time when he succeeded in doing very well a 3rd being his best I
think.
Anyway times have changed a touch since then but I still keep going back,
the best trip was when i managed to convince the ACO that I was a fully
accredited press photographer and was granted full ress facilities, they
make a hell of a difference.
I haven't been for a number of years but am determined to get there in
1998

Hi fellow race fans, I'm on a mission. I am specifically looking for the
placement of a Corvette driven by Johnson & Johnson (I believe) in the 1971
or 1972 24 hrs of Le Mans. The car was owned by Toye English of Tampa, FL,
and driven in the IMSA races from 1969 - 1972. The car in the US, had a unique
"stars & bars" paint scheme. Therefore if you or any of your contacts could aim
me in the right direction to find the race results of the above ref. races, I
would be most appreciative.
Thanks, Dave, hope to hear from you. Stan

looked at was Club Arnage. Today i'm looking again and what i've seen up to now
is excellent. Please keep up the good work.
My wife Jan, friends Alan & Tina and I first visited Le-Mans in 1991 and we have
not missed a year since. We can be found at the end of the elevated mound on
Maison Blanche, look down and you will see two caravans in their own compound,
with coloured lights around a gazebo, and a banner declaring "Geordies on tour".
All are welcome for a cool beer, roll on 1998.

I am planning a trip with any Austin Healeys to Le Mans 98.
As 1998 is the centenary of Donald Healey birth, there will be a
special 1 hour race of 8 laps of the full 13.6 km circuit on Saturday
at 12 noon before the 24hr race it self. The grid of the AH race will
consist of 70 race Healeys, of various classes from early Silverstones
through the big healeys and sprites, some of which competed in the race
in the 50s and 60s.
I live in the North, and would like to hear from any other parties of
Healeys traveling to Le Mans, to contact me.

Hello. Now I´m back again.I have to share this computor with 10 other
friends because I am at work just now.And the only time I can do this
is at the night-shift.I work as a ambulance paramedic in a town Örebro,
200 kilometres west of Stockholm. This is also the home town of the
rally-champion Stig Blomqvist and the late Ronnie Peterson. But I was
born in a town called Kumla,20 km south. And that is the home town of
Fredrik Ekblom. About 40 km to the west we have the town Karlskoga, the
home of Eje Elgh, and the place for Kanonloppet at the track Gelleråsen.
Very big in the 50´s and 60´s.I think that "everybody" has been at that race.
But i miss the old Group C cars. And the most beautiful race car is
the Porsche 917 "langheck"
Some years ago I was in Germany, and drive a lap round Nurburgring In
an old -73 Toyota Corolla Estate, But I didn´t beat the dream limit.
This time. Now i wonder if I can drive a lap round Le Mans
in the same way as at Nurburgring? Once I had a neighbour who said
that he has done that, when he was at a De Tomaso Pantera meeting at
Le Mans some years ago.
I hope you can exuse my english writing .
And I hope to hear from you soon.
Merry Christmas from

Blinding web site capturing the vibe of Le Mans perfectly. Our 1st trip was in 1993
when we lucky enough to see the last of the prototypes with Peugout comming in 1 2 3
and have been back every year
since. Highlights have been rugby tackling those Christmas trees outside that Beer
tent in the village, chucking up in front of a woman after comming off the rollacoster
and writng 4 - 2 in big dirty great letters on a German camper van. We even managed to
corrupt some of the Gulf team pit crew by providing them with vodka, we have the
pictures as well. once again excellent site!

I just hit the site for the first time since the race in 97. In fact, I made
an entry almost a year to the day.
The 97 race was fantastic - not only for the race itself, but for a bunch of
great memories. We all thought the weather was going to suck but it turned
out to be a blinder - especially on the Sunday. I was amazed at how many
people will stop and stare at the nubile females in our group who were pouring
ice-cold cooler water over themselves at the Mercier Champagne Bar. 97 was
the year we toppled a rather pointless, and somewhat cloudy Champagne
consumption/spending record for this event. Who won again??
I have done many all-nighters over the the last 8 tries at LeMans, but this
year I spent a little more time appreciating some of the vantage points on
the circuit where one can capture both great photos and video. There is
nothing like being at Tetre Rouge at dawn. Somehow, the cars sound just
a little better than at any other time or place on the circuit.
So, 97 is stored in the memory banks and we look at 98. It is with a
heavy heart that I must say that the ACO have screwed me for this year.
My honeymoon plans were to be followed by a quick jaunt over to Europe
for the annual kick-up at the Sarthe, but this has been dashed by politics
of advertising and sponsorship which has brought the dates forward a weekend,
and provided me with one alternative to going..."Honey, do you mind if
I duck-out early from the honeymoon and head to LeMans?... honey?.... honey???
So, 99 is already my focus - perhaps Rolex in between, definitely the Daytona 500,
and my best wishes to everyone for a safe and fantastic 98 LeMans. Will someone
fire-off a Champagne Cork at the Mercier stand for me? Thanks.
P.S. Fax, Matt, Rich, Sarah. Terry - I have some alternatives to the Indy shirts
for 98 - look for a mailing in the near future.

devote any time to Le Mans, this site is obviously the best way for me

I made my trip to Le Mans from Wisconsin for the first time last summer.
It was the best race I've ever been to, including about eight Indy 500's,
two Daytona 500's and lots of others. I just bought a great book, "1997
Le Mans 24 Hours", by C. Moity & J.M.Teissedre. But I've been unable to

I just picked up my bro Dave Harper's note book entry. I know the pain
the boy is going through - I missed the '86 race, due to lack of a job,
and it's a bummer to miss a year, particularly when you do a trans-atlantic
for 8 on the trot. You will be sadly missed Davey boy - we will be thinking
of you, slobbing out on the beach with your gorgeous new memsaab (hi, Tonya),
while we're eating heat & dust at the track. You're so right, Dave, Those
cars sound different early on Sunday, covered with the grime of a night at
the Sarthe, but still blasting around - I'll never be able to give it up,
and thats the truth. My all-time, is still the shock-wave of a Sauber C90
that rattled our teeth as we stood on the guard rail on the Mulsanne at
3:00am Sunday during the '91 race - what an experience! Sorry I couldn't
make Daytona this year - but there's still the NASCAR race at the 'yard'
in August.
Richard, Fax, Sarah'n'Graham, TC and anyone else who's going to hook up
with us in'98 - prepare to DO IT ALL AGAIN - jeezus, am I getting too old
for this?

are coming from Southern California just outside of Los Angeles (yes
it's still raining here). I was given your web site address from a
mechanic who has worked with various Porsche teams at the 24 hour
race. Your web site has answered a lot of questions and has been
extremely helpful. We look forward to hearing from you and possibly
meeting some of you at Le Mans. I would appreciate any suggestions
anyone might have for rookies (first timers) at Le Mans. We are big
race fans of all motorsports. Living in SoCal we have been able to go
to the Pomona Raceway (drag racing & vintage races),the Long Beach
Grand Prix (Cart) and the new Roger Penske track in Fontana (NASCAR & Cart).
We are hoping Bernie will bring Formula 1 back to the states. Las Vegas
& Laguna Seca have been rumored as possible sites.
