On the TV it looks like it is snowing at Arnage! It is in fact rain and wet tyres are appearing on the pit lane but at this stage there is confusion and the range is from slicks going on to the Prodrive Ferrari. Kondo has spun the Dome behind the Safety car it is still dry in the pits. And the rain seems to have stopped on the circuit so the Prodrive team appear to have made the correct decision on tyres. 02.34 We return to green flag racing. Sarrazin has now passed the Theys car after its brake change. The Jeanette Panoz is now 10th; the youngster is recording very good times. Enge in 13th continues to lead GTS by 2 laps from O'Connell and a further lap from Pilgrim. The GT class is still Dumas from Luhr but The Japanese car now leads Drudi in the Seikel Porsche. Spyker and Morgan continue 34th and 35th. 03.01 Lammers comes in and at last gets out tyres and fuel and Hillebrand goes out. Goodies now lead baddies by 3 laps. 03.23 the Prodrive Ferrari has a longer stop as they have spilt some engine oil in the cabin, the MG comes in and Blundell takes over. 03.26 Biela takes over from Pirro fuel and new tyres. The Bentley and the Angelleli Cadillac are still circulating quickly and without their early dramas would be even better placed. Only the Audi and MG cars have regularly lapped below 3.40, Biela has a two lap lead over Pescatori and a further lap on Krumm, Three further laps behind is the Bentley further four laps cover the next 5 cars so the race behind the Audis has not yet been settled. At the moment there are few events of note and the reliability of the front-runners is remarkable. 03.45 That comment seems to have put the kiss of death on the remaining works Panoz that has stopped at the beginning of the pit lane. Gunnar helped by the pit crew pushes it straight into the garage. 03.49 Blundell stops after only 6 laps, it's fuelled and the rear body comes off for a top up of gearbox oil as the temperature was going up fast, it goes back into the race. The Morgan and Spyker are still running as we approach 12 hours. At half distance; Biela, Pescatori, Krumm, Van de Poele, Angelleli, Comas, Hillebrand, Montagny, Goossens and Ara. . |
