Sorry, no Jock's jottings this year. Jock got a real job so you will have to put up with Dave's demented ramblings instead. I took a walk down the track from the pits to Tertre Rouge yesterday to evaluate the track changes. Up to the Dunlop bridge things are as before but as you emerge from the bridge the track curves away to the left and is built-up in level so there is much less of a crest. The shot we had of cars coming over the crest with the Dunlop grandstand as a background is now gone (wipes small tear from eye) but we may have some new stuff to work with. The circuit then curves back to the right then left. This configuration has significantly improved the Bugatti 're-join'. Things then go pretty much as the old configuration through the second part of the esses and the shot chute to Tertre Rouge. One major change for spectators is the excavation of the outfield hillside above the esses. Most of it is gone and 15ft chainlink fence now obstructs what was formerly an uncluttered view. Such is the price we pay for saftey. A cold and drizzly day confronted the 52 cars invited to test this weekend at Le Mans. Out promptly at 9am was the Bentley number 8 seeing the early pace but soon the contingent of Audis predictably sailed past them in short order. All of the drivers, even the most experienced were going quite gingerly around the Dunlop to Tertre Rouge section but even so there were still a few embarassing cold tyre spinouts. Top of the order after 4 hours is the #1 Audi followed surprisingly by the #2 and #3 Audis (astonishing...) In LMGTP the Bentley is on its own but was setting times that would put it in 7th place overall. In the 675 class MG are putting in a much better demonstration of reliability than last year giving the marque the top 3 spots at the time of writing. LMGTS has the prodrive Ferrari circulating fastest at this moment and in LMGT the Racers Group Porsche #81 is holding of the PK Sport #78 off top spot.
