In homage to their missing 24-Hours of Daytona team mate Dale Earnhardt, at Scrutineering, the Corvette team donned Earnhardt hats, unfurled an Earnhardt flag and held up three fingers for his famous NASCAR #3. Earnhardt had enjoyed his Daytona drive and the Corvette team so much, he spoke seriously of going to Le Mans with them, perhaps in 2002. The team has dedicated their race to Earnhardt.

Talk about an emotional send-off, last night, Chevrolet motor sports boss Gary Claudio haltingly read aloud a fax sent to the team by Earnhardt's wife, Teresa. Not a dry eye in the room.
