With Silverstone approaching does anyone know if the Fox and Hounds in Whittlebury has reopened?  The campsite bar at Whittlebury Hall is a disgrace, so had to travel to Silverstone village for decent ale?

Anyone with local knowledge?

Thanks

There was a smarter type of pub open in Whittlebury for the Classic in July although whether it was called the Fox & Hounds I cannot recollect.

Did drive through Silverstone and there is a pub boarded up on the main drag through that I remember doing particularly well in in 1986!!!!!!!!!!

The Silverstone website lists a number of campsites.

Selelect 'Hamilton Fields' and the 'Henwood'. This site is directly opposite the circuit main entrance.

20min walk to village and good ale.

We're bringing tents and our own beer..... and probably fireworks and noise making devices - it just seems easier that way....

I don't know a lot about Whittlebury I'm afraid...  The White Horse in Silverstone Village is not too bad.  Although it's a good 20-30 minute walk from the main gate at Silverstone.  I'm not sure how long it would take from the Whittlebury Hall campsite, but I'd say a good 20 mins on top of that.  Did you walk from Whittlebury last time?

I stayed at the Saracens Head years ago and it was always clean with good food/beer.  I hope it's the same now.  It's definitely not a walk away from Silverstone/Whittlebury though.

A word of warning as well...  Any taxis called out to Silverstone village or nearby hotels usually charge double fare/call out from Towcester.  Stu and I were due to stay at the Premier Inn, next to the Green Man Inn on the A43 but the taxis were charging over £20.  That hotel is just a couple of miles to the circuit, but a walk along a dual carriageway.  We found a B&B in the village and walked in.

I agree the White Horse is a bit too far to walk but had some lovely beers, so planning on bikes.  Two years ago the Fox and Hounds was a good close drink so a little disappointed to find it had plywood curtains when we arrived last year.  Cant seem to find any info from Google so suspect the worse.  One things certain I will not be drinking camp site (what tasted like) leftover Grand Prix beer from a plastic glass this year!
