OK guys

I know its been a bit quiet around here just lately and noted especially that 2009 did not produce the usual funny tales of Le Mans 'Merde' stories so thought I'd drop this one onto the forum.

Went to a superb meet just south of Melton Mowbray last night ( 2nd Tuesday of the month in the summer ) and it is the perfect antidote to post LM blues with more tasty vehicles you can shake a stick at. I guessed at a crowd of 2 - 3000 but you have to get there early. Almost better than Mad Friday at Arnage without the Tw*ts.

Worth a view of the regular monthly album post ( and I know its on FB - it does have it's uses ! )

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=114875&id=665961560&l=8832695ad2

Hope the link works, or failing that look for Ashby Folville.

Regards from the Midlands

Nice and not a supersoaker in sight. It was strange to see the Messerschmidt 109 there, I know a guy over here with one with the number 109 on it.

Hi chum. Thanks for raising the flag in the midlands.

Seems like theres not too many of us about ! All the meets seem to happen 'down south' as they say.

Left teh Westie at home and had to go on the m/bike on Tuesday with mate on pillion as the car queues were back beyond the last village - Ashby Folville is a top do with some very tasty machinery.

Regards

Hi Chum
Its MONTHLY - Second Tuesday of the month until the clocks go back but get there early if you want to park close. It's 1UKP to park on the cricket field and free elesewhere.
Catering and outside beer tent if it stays fine.
Look out for the Westie but went 2 up on the CBF last week because I didn't leave home till 6.00pm.
Even then queues along the lanes upto the next village.
More stuff on Pistonheads - Midlands
Stay cool.......

Bryan, thanks for the link to this

I often run down south to the 2nd Tuesday of the month meet at the ACE cafe, went this month, but I think Lara and I will toddle across from Streetly to Ashby Folville next month

Anyone else from CA be there? Nice to think there are a few of we Middlanders about

Some of you will have already met Lara at the HA or BN enclaves, she's my BRG Midget

Martini - just spotted your new sig - "Bought myself a new roll-on deodorant today. Instructions said 'Take off top and push up bottom'.

Five feckin hours I spent in casualty!"

Reminded me of the Not The Nine O Clock Swedish Chemist shop sketch from many years ago

"Please sell me a deodorant"

"Ball or aerosol?"

"No, I want it for my armpits"

2/3,000 at Ashby Folville? I used to go there when I lived in the UK but that was about 14 years back. Before that there were two other venues one of which I felt was better suited becausde of the huge car park and field attached to the pub. However, back then we got a few hundred people only, not several thousand. Where on earth do the park all the cars once the field opposite is full? And do they still try and reserve the real pub park for special vehicles only like we used to do? Some used to try and turn up early with any old tat and we refused them entry. Remember once I tried to turn away a real C type since there were so many replicas about!

Yes - it was unbelieveable. Motorbikes parked everywhere and stacked at 90 deg to the pavement, on the pavement, outside the pub and then some, and then all the way up the road past the church. Cars everywhere they can park including all the grass verges approaching the village. I bet the parish council meetings are lively as the residents must get pi**ed off if they need to go out.

The quality cars are admitted to the cricket field, while the overflow is on the field(S) opposite and that inevitably includes some quality kit that has arrived just too late. I think people start turning up at around 5.00pm.

There was one recent suggestion that it's time for a separate bike night.

As for turning away real C-types, they are so common arn't they, but understandable when there is so much interesting stuff to see. A petrolheads dream.

Some years back the police closed it down for a while because the roads got so choked. Frankly I am surprised they are allowed to continue with those numbers and the concomitant road blockage. Mind you, there used to be tasty girls behind the bar and even tastier beer!
