Just a little motoring related side issue to fill in the next two weeks.

Can you remember cars that your Dad had and what were your favourites.....?

Mine:
Austin Maxi, Austin Ambassador and a Morris Marina. Oh and a Mini Cooper!

I know, I know but my Dad, God bless him, was an Austin / Morris / BMC / British Leyland / Rover dealer.

He did, however borrow Chris Rea's dad's Rolls Royce for a week. That was fun being taken to school in it!!

He has some nice old buses on "that" list

Austin A40 Farina
Vauxhall Viva
Ford Sierra

How far back should I go?

Dad had buggerall money and lots of very old cars over the years

Morris 8, Ford Prefect, BSA Dandy (sometimes no car at all!) really much older Fords that showed a family resemblance to the early Prefect, Austin A40 Devon, Austin A40 Somerset, Austin Seven, Austin Big Seven, Austin Ten, Various Hillman products including a gorgeous Drop Head coupe (which dad's mate then proceeded to destroy by braking when dad was trying to tow start him and ripped the body off the chassis)

Then he got modern

An Austin A35 (in which I learnt to drive) A Hillman Imp, An Austin 1100, A Triumph Herald or two. He had a Ford Escort van with windows in (took my young son around Scotland in that with him and mom) various others which I forget now (privilege of getting damned old, sorry) He had my wife's old M2 Ford Escort later followed by an 1500 Dolomite.

Then he got too ill to drive, but by heck he'd had a few hadn't he.

Reminds me of this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13JK5kChbRw

So - we were so poor we had a - light blue with a white go faster stripe (reg LHT _ _ _)

still scares me, only thing i rememmber is that you can drive along at a high speed (50mph -tops) with the door slid back (so it was wide open). When you broke, the door use to slam shut, if anything in the way - just like a mobile guillotine  Grin

Oh yea - also

Moggie Traveller
Hillman Avenger
Fiat Poski Fiat (AHHHHHHHH)
and other crap (more to add as I remember in my nightmares)

1930 Norton
2 big 1950's American cars when we lived in South America in the late 50's/60's, I'll try and find some photos to identify them.
Riley Pathfinder
Fiat 600
Renault r8
Rover 2000
Peugeot 504 estate
Peugeot 504 Ti  x2
Renault Clio, which my Mun still runs.

My favourite was the first 504 Ti, quick car for the time, I was allowed to drive it when I was 18, I got in a lot of trouble with that one, I broke the prop shaft. Grin

If we're just talking about what my dad had during my lifetime, it wasn't an exciting list (and I get confused as to what were his cars in his youth and which were his 3 brothers).  Anyway there was a mid 70s Cougar up until about 1978, followed by a 1976 Audi Fox (badged as Audi 80 in Europe), and an early 80s Ford F100 pickup to get through the 1980s.  A Chevy Corsica and Chevy Citation II replaced them in the early 90s.   Since then, it's included a Ford Escort wagon, a Mazda pickup, and a Kia Rio.

Of those my favorite is the Corsica, if only because I split my time in high school driving that and the Citation, which was a piece of junk.  Of course, since my first car was a ten year old but low mileage 1981 Escort, I couldn't complain too much.  That car was my grandfather's and with only 32,000 miles put on in the first 10 years, the gaskets had dry-rotted.

First car I remember my old man getting was a brand new 2.0 Granada in 1977; it was like being Cowley in the Professionals (OK, so his was a 3.0L, but they both had vinyl roofs, OK? Smiley) Before that, we had a series of Datsuns (including a 1.4L 120Y coupe which my Mum drove, probably the nearest thing they ever got to a performance car).

After that he had a Fiesta "Million" special edition 1.1 with a pop-up sunroof and special side stripe (woo hoo), an Escort 1.6 velour-tastic Ghia, a succession of turgid vans (such as brown Maestros, or even a bright orange Simca whose floor rusted away so you could see the road through the passenger footwell), then ended up down the Rover "man wearing a hat" brigade with a couple of 200-series ones, and has now ended his motoring days in a Yaris.

Not exactly petrolhead heaven then!
