A group of us are going for a golfing weekend down in Bournemouth next weekend (How I'm getting away with that 4 weeks before LM I dont know!!).

Could anyone recommend a decent cafe on route between Banbury and Newbury?

The only thing that comes to mind is the Little Chef just south of the junction with the M40, but check its still there, as they've had a big sort out.  Can't think of a Greasy Spoon in Newbury, and the villages are far too posh - you'll only get almond croissants.

Spot on there, nothing in newbury (I live there). There is a truck stop off the a43 jus before silverstone but that may be too early for you.

Alternativly, you could hang on and go to the Avon Cafe on Avon beech just east of Christchurch, the Breakfasts are mega and I mean mega, most cant finish them, nice view over to the Needles, IoW as well.

There is not much actually on the A34

Depends what you want.
Greasy spoon? Sit down breakfast? All day breakfast?

If it is at breakfast time - the best place around here is in Woodstock.
The Blenheim Tea Rooms
Quite smart, but pretty much standard, sit down, local cafe.

About 5/6 mins from Pear Tree roundabout off the A34.

Full English, Toast, Tea/Coffee/Juice, as much cereal and fruit / yoghurt as you can eat between servings. About 7 or 8 quid p/p

Little Chef South of M40 is still there I think. Chievely Services at A34/M4 Junction and there's a small Services with a McD's about 10 miles south of Newbury off the A34.

Having experienced the Avon Cafe that Ian suggested, I'd recommend you just grab a coffee and a muffin at any petrol station on the way to tide you over and get yourself to Christchurch for a proper breakfast!
