What a shame, some of those 50's/60's vehicles were fabulously imaginative and stylish.

Just a pity that pretty much anything they built in the last twenty years was at best average, at worst total crap. That Pontiac truck is a disgrace, and the Solstice was a woeful effort too. I guess they've gotten the result they deserved.

I was always a fan of the 1970's Firebirds.  Don't know why.  Maybe just because by the early / mid 80's there were a few in NZ and they looked so different from the Holdens and Fords that we were being force fed by Australia.

Thanks Phil,
Yes, I saw the news of the demise of the PMD a week or so ago and was not impressed.

To me, Pontiac have always been about sporty cars - they launched the muscle car era with the original GTO - whereas Chevrolet (apart from the Corvette) were basically a pick up truck builder  Wink

We've had a few Pontiacs here at Chateau Brune.  A '76 Trans Am (whose engine is now in the cobra), an '84 Fiero and a 2000 Trans Am and now a Aussy Monaro - from which the recent GTO was derived (all were / are red, coincidentally).

But for me, the one on my 'want' list would be a 1973 Trans Am 455 SD / 4 speed.

Andy - agreed, the Aztec is shite.  The current G8 is a HSV (Holden) Club Sport / Vauxhall VXR8.

It's always a shame to see car car brand disappear variety being the spice of life etc etc.

They should have produced there G8,vauxhall VXR much earlier and gone back to making blue collar muscle cars.

I always thought the solstice could have been so much more

Neil, I've never been a huge fan of the big hood 'screaming chicken', although I like the bullnose shape of the early 2nd generation Firebirds.

How about a GTO ala 'Two Lane Blacktop'

Its a shame to see the Pontiac brand go the way of the dodo bird, GM brass and the UAW are largely responsible for the mess GM has found itself in.  For most of us in our mid-forties the name Pontiac conjures up memories of Burt Reynolds in Black Trans-Am being chased by Jackie Gleason.  A buddy of mine had a '78 Firebird Formula, the car was a complete battering ram, but could go like stink!

I have to be careful how I post this but here goes. At Daytona in 1992 we were royally entertained in the Budweiser trailer bar after the race. The barman kept coming out with acronyms, like FORD stands for "Fix or Repair Daily" but most except PONTIAC were washed away in a haze of alcohol.

PONTIAC? Poor Old N****r Thinks It's A Cadillac. was the answer.

Hope I don't get banned!
