All,

As the world slips further into the doom, gloom, and general apathy of recession I have been having a hard time thinking of if / how to continue the CA Charity Fund.

The past two years have seen fantastic results and the charities we’ve supported have been very grateful for the monies we’ve raised.  However, with the majority of us watching the pennies I feel fund raising activities should be pared down this year.

There will be no auction this year although the annual call for donations in the CA Guide will go ahead as usual.  This will give people who want to give the opportunity to do so.

Should anybody have / plan to collect any items for an auction please let me know by pm.  If there are enough items we can auction them online after Le Mans.

As well as the decision to pare down the charity activity it has also been decided that we will only give to our two permanent charities this year - the Motorsport Safety Fund and the AICR.

I trust these decisions have your support and hope we can pick up the fundraising activities again when times are better.

Doris,

You have (and continue) to put a great deal of personal effort into successfully bringing together the many disparate parts of CA to organise stuff that ends up with great support for the chosen charities.  Many thanks to you for that and, despite the current woeful economic climate, for continuing to do so with a reasonable dose bit of pragmatic realism.

So, the CA Guide will get what I can give in the first place, and if anything else comes along that you are able to muster, then any spare after that as well.  Hard times for many indeed, although that often brings surprising responses - I hope that the thread generates some pleasantly surprising ones.

I have already collected an item last August with the auction in mind so have a race sponsors victory lane hat from the O Reilly Nascar Truck race signed by the race winner Kyle Busch in victory lane at Bristol Motor Speedway. So let me know what you want me to do with it and if I need to bring it to Le mans next month.

I concur with the comments about all the hard work Doris has put in over the past few years, and also concur with her decisions regarding the continued raising of funds in these economically difficult times.

To help the fund-raising, we have decided to transfer the bulk of the profit from the t-shirt/car sticker sales to the Charity Account.  I can't put a figure on it at present until I collect all the money for the shirts, and until all costs (shirts, printing, P&P) are settled, but it is likely to be in the region of £3-400.

Any profit from merchandising has, for the past couple of years, been collected for the Server Fund.  This fund currently holds sufficient to meet the expected calls on it for the next 12-15 months, even after paying out just over £1000 this time last year for the new server equipment (which continues to function very well  angel), so the decision was made to transfer the profit to charity.

This, together with income from the CA guide and any other activity at Le Mans, will hopefully boost the Charity account to a reasonable figure.

Good call Doris, and many congrats on your previous efforts - and thanks to all who have supported the CA fund raising.
