Taking a weekend break over the channel @ Easter around the Boulogne Sur Mer area. Anyone have an experience of the cheaper end of the hotel market in France. whats worth it & what to avoid? Hotel F1 is off the list & Premiere Classe might be a struggle for certain members of the family all we want is something reasonable & clean a bit like a Travel Lodge or Inn Please guy's she's driving me mental

for cheapish and clean hotels we have used these in the past, you might some where better but worth alook to start with http://www.campanile.com/en/default.aspxwe also use. www.laterooms.com - have used them for cheap hotels in London not used them yet, but told they are good - http://www.hotels.co.uk/good luck, just think the more you save on the room the more for booze and food!

To be honest I have never used a "chain" hotel in France but have always had superb rooms in all the private owned ones I have used over the years, at reasonable rates too. I have never booked, just turned up and found what was available. This goes back 19 years since passing my driving test and heading off with whoever I was with at the time for a fun weekend in France Strangest event was taking the 2 Yanks back from LM 07 to the ferry with the offer of fuel and a free hotel for the nite.Nice Hotel in Dinard, cheap.. Lady PP and I had the same room last year! Spooky but very pleasant after 8 days of madness

Have you looked at the Logis web page, good independent hotels, we have not yet had a bad one.
Otherwise look up the Accor group. They cover a range of prices within the group that include Novotel, F1 etc

I'm sure there are two chains of hotels between Formule 1 and Premiere Classe, but I can only find the one, ETAP (part of Accor). Louvre (Premiere Classe etc) seem to have gotten rid of theirs, and I see they want €41 a night for PC, it was about €24 a few years ago, with the 2 cheaper groups being €18, and F1 €15
LPP is right of course, if you can find an independent its more fun (if clean) Try the local tourist board website

When on family trips we usually use Novotel's, you can usually pick up some good prices if you prebook on the net, although the weakness of the £ isn't helping.
i.e family room for 4 (2 under 16's) including breakfast €85. Prices do vary depending on which hotel you are looking at, and when.

I have stayed in the B & B hotels a few times in different locations around France. They are the next step up from Formule1,
They are/were around £32 a night for a family room. All rooms have en suite facilities, unlike f1 which has self clean bogs and showers down the corridor.

I've found the B&B hotels/motels very comfortable particularly after a week at LM. Nice hot showers, comfortable bed etc. Decent food is normally a mile away.
