Not truly a find as apparently collectors used to visit the house and make written offers. The old guy just didnt want to sell.

Why oh why do none of my long lost relatives hide this sort of thing away for me to find.....
I'd settle for a relative with 6 million in used fivers. At that price, you wouldn't dare use the thing, and what are Direct Line going to say

Reminds me of the rAC when I wrecked the 348TS near Bordeaux. They said they would provide a car of "equivalent quality". It turned out to be a Renault 25...............

Heard today that the Bugatti went for 4.4 million to a private european collector and the ony thing it will need in restoration is 4 new tyres and a mighty good clean, everything was intact

Have a look at this months Classic & Sports...............those seats don't look 'intact' to me!!!..........Needs more than a clean by all accounts but I think you're right in saying that it's alot better than a wreck. A sympathetic restoration is what the article said it needed.

I know it was being sold at Rétromobile, in Paris. Rétromobile - is a good show, been a few times, have a wide range of vehicles and you do not look odd drinking champagne at 10.30 in the morning. - can't imagine that at the NEC!

I hope it does get a 'light' restoration instead of one of those terrible Pebble Beach resto's. The car was remarkably good considering it's age and lack of use. Yes some parts of the interior were looking quite poor but these can be repaired rather than replaced. I would like to see it preserved rather than restored- its nice to see such a car in that condition. Remember that it has a Le Mans conection but this can easily be erased by unsympathetic treatment. I last saw the car in the summer of 2005, I certainly didn't make a written offer on it- prefer Alfa's myself  Si

Dr S...............from the Bonhams pitch....."The car’s discovery has been brought to the attention of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance selection committee, and they have kindly granted the car a fully transferable entry in its present condition (and subject to their entry criteria) for the Pre-war Preservation class of their 2009 event, which is available to the new owner. "
Don't know what that means or what will happen to it, but I'm with you......Pebble Beach just isn't it.
