House hunting in Sebring eh Bob? Does Mrs U know?
When the dollar was around 1.90 it would have been quite an attractive proposition. But now, it's down around the 1.60 mark. Making my beer more expensive in March!!

Looking at the street names on that map made me realise what a boring country we have become.
In North America they have .....
The New Jersey Turnpike, The Sea to Sky Highway, Route 66.
What have we got over here? .....
The M1, The A45, The London Orbital Motorway.
Boring Boring.
What ever happened to real names like we used to have? I propose a campaign to bring back proper road names such as .....
The Great North Road, The Fosse Way, The Watling Street and all the others that have been lost over the years.

Mancunian Way is in every day use, admittedly its just a bit of duel carriageway but still... And how about Snake Pass or Hardknott Pass - isnt that exotic enough? There are some lovely road names in the north esp the Lake District. Route 66 is after all just part of the road numbering system - its the associations that have made it romantic not the way its named.

Maybe just a bit TOO wise me old Goddess the good old names do still hang around but there are still places being named after nonentities. Think how bad one might feel if home was in Brown Avenue or B-liar Passage I'm with Bob on this let's have romance back in the road names. This from a bloke whose house is in a road named after Sir Stirling and is surrounded by other famous names (Goodwood, Brabham, Silverstone and the like) And whose Estate is named after the home of the greatest bear not to be Rupert or Paddington, The Hundred Acre Estate. Pooh lives! Pooh rocks!

What have we got over here? ..... I used to live in Ayrton Senna Road. Named cause the guy lived nearby (Reading) in his F3000 days. Not quite the same calibre as the Sao Paulo namesake which is a huge boulevard - the Reading version is a cul-de-sac with the obligatory speed humps! All of which was wasted on me as he has never been on my 'great drivers' list.

Sadly not indeed! But as I chose to live here it doesn't irk me. I do live about 250 yards (yes yards dammit, I am an Englishman) from Silverstone Rd (or is that Drive? Or Way?...) I suppose that Bob, like me might quite enjoy... "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike" some day as we all go to look for America. Whether we would enjoy the Greyhound Experience is another matter.

We have a "Watling Street Road" in Preston and just around the corner from me there is Goodwood Avenue.
I named my house "Indianapolis"

Many fabulous driving / riding roads in the USA. I could recommend a few over some beers at Sebring. Phil

Ayrton Senna Road is behind my local chip shop, but he did live there when he was a youngster.

There was some fella on telly over the last couple of days who has just done it on a mo'cycle seemed quite interesting (what I saw) he did say that for most people a lot was not worth bothering with but he enjoyed those parts and found the lonely wilderness quite attractive. Saved his pennies, went over bought a HD and then shipped it back, he did say that the short term insurance was a problem and found the best way was an internet company.
