Crikey. Just popped in to see what's been happening in CA world and found this. Wishing Debs all the best and a speedy recovery. Take it easy MrT- we are all thinking of you both up here.

Well this is what obviously what happens when one gets submerged in work - stuff happens around the bazaars and, as with many, I too have only just picked up on this one - mental note to self, stop getting submerged in work no matter how vital it seems....
Hard though it must have been to keep your spirits up and keep going over the time and keep things in a semblance of order, particularly having to shuttle back and forth, you are doing a great job of it Ian - my very best wishes to both of you, and to Deb for a full recovery. It does sound very much that a corner has been turned in the right direction and she is on the mend - I do so hope that it continues, and that it is not long before Debs is back presenting vociferous demands for you to action! All the very best,
MG Mark

Tonight’s news – via MIL, so credit there – is that Deb has had the tubes withdrawn, so is now breathing unaided, and is able to speak. A move to an orthopaedic, rather than intensive care, ward, is now in sight. Whooppee!
I missed Rouen today, because 2 good friends came to help me with paperwork – and also because 250 miles, 3 days in a row, is knackering, believe me! – but will be there in good time tomorrow, I hope.
Another credit is due to locals rowing in to help – Alan and Mag have been entertaining our dog Troy for the last 13 days, and Mag has done a mountain of ironing. She insists on doing more! Given that Deb had been away for three weeks, there is no shortage of stuff being washed! There are other offers of help here waiting to be taken up, and visiting Deb will be sensible once she’s in a more “ordinary” ward, thus helping me to reduce the strain of that trip too often. This trial becomes easier by the day. Hopefully I can help ease Deb’s concerns when we chat – yes! – tomorrow!

Ian, things are thankfully looking so much brighter, have a great day tomorrow. I remember seeing photos of Mark's Subaru Impreza crash on the way to Le Mans this year and marvelling at what a modern chassis can withstand. But a Nissan Micra versus a camion doesn't sound like a fair fight to me, though clearly the crash zone design worked according to plan and we all know they build 'em tough on South Tyneside, thank God. I'm presuming the airbag went off?

Yes, both airbags deployed. Deb's had a small amount of blood on it, although she didn't suffer any significant injury to head or thorax. What was marvellous, when I looked at the wreck, was how little the engine/transmission had moved backwards. Deb had pointed out ages ago that this model of Micra had a very good NCAP rating - proved in practice! I think Deb's injuries are consistent with her having "submarined" under the seat belt in the impact, so she went to meet the scuttle, rather than it coming in on her. My inference is that crutch straps, which would prevent such an event, are the safest way to go, and I must say to all who have older, and perhaps less crashworthy vehicles, due to their design age, that you might think about this. Sadly, crutch straps will never be popular in family cars for comfort and convenience reasons. Had Deb had them, she might almost have walked away....
