Hi,

I am driving down to Twickenham next weekend for the Iron Maiden concert and was looking for a bit of info. The website says that there is resident parking in force for about a mile around the stadium. Is it free parking after a mile because i don't mind a mile or so walk if it saves me forking out money on an offical and over priced car park.

Anyone with experience of parking for Twickenham, please let me know my best options.

Also I am toying with going into London if i am there early enough via the Tube. Where do i need to catch the tube from, where do i need to head for in the city centre for the main shopping area . And how long would the journey take each way and the approximate cost for a return trip.

Any help with tube stations, tube lines and any other info i might need would be appreciated.

Thanks
Regards
Chris

Chris. Free parking does start outside of a mile radius but I have found that the natives get a bit a**ey about non residents taking up their parking spaces outside of their houses. I have known them to use cones, crates etc to stop others using spaces.

As you drive in from the M3 and as you aproach Twickenham you will see a pub on your left called The Winning Post. They offer parking for £15, off road and secure, you can also exit the car park at the rear of the pub and miss some of the heavy after gig traffic. It is a 15 minute walk from here to the ground. If you go further towards the ground you will pass Richmond collage on your right, double back at the roundabout and you can park there. Be warned, the pirates were charging £25 the last time I was there and there is usually problems exiting and joining the main drag out.

All in all I prefer using The Winning post car park. It's your call whether a Yorkshireman is prepared to pay £15 to park a car;D

Yes Lancashire,  if you don't mind !

No not prepared to pay £15 to park ! The ticket cost me £50 The booking fee £10.50, Fuel is going to set me back another £50 - £60 So I am already at about £110 - £120 for the day out so certainly not prepared to add another £15 to park up. Going to try and arrive around 10 am ish and drive around till i find somewhere for free.

At least it won't weigh much when he carries it on the long truge thru the mean back streets of Twickenham.

 Shocked Talk about "careful"!

Personally, I'd happily pay £15 to park up at the Winning Post. The fact that it is secure is worth that money alone. How much is a new wing mirror? Or a respray after a keying from the pissed off chav who's house you parked outside? Or kids practicing their BMX on the roof? Also what price to be able to get moving on the long journey back from t'Twickenham to t'Pigeonland rather than sitting in t'crap traffic jams? And how much would I pay NOT to go to Staines?

What was that phrase about knowing the cost of everything and the value of nowt? It serves to prove the other adage that inside every Lancastrian there's a Jewish/Scottish Yorkshireman screaming to get out!  Wink

Get the train. Then ou can get on it. You'll need to be pissed to watch IRON MAIDEN..

The walk from Twickenham station isnt too far. Parking / driving . using a car in london is aweful.

either than or park in reading and get the train from there. its a direct route.

The only problem with the trains is when you have to fight with 30,000 other people to try and get on one after the gig. Oh and be aware that after the concert the police close most of the roads within about a mile of the stadium. We were there at the weekend and passed numerous car parks & sidestreets all queued up with cars not going anywhere because the police had closed all the main exit roads for pedestrians. Well worth parking that mile or so away from the stadium and then have very little traffic to contend with once you get to your car.
