My son and I took the 528i down to Croft on Saturday to watch the qualifying and stay over to the Sunday for the race.

So I stuffed all the gear in the car and plugged in the 12v cooler box which had in it the beer and a bit of food.(Beer was for me as my sons only 10)

On arrival I disconnected the cooler and reconnected the solar trickle charger (or so I thought)

Got back at about 5:30 and was suprised to find that the central locking didn't work, hmm turned on the ignition, not even enough power to light up the warning lights!

Doh, but at least the Stella tasted good.

However all was not lost (or so i thought) after tea and a few more stellas, i'd just replace the battery with the smaller spare that I took to power the 12 v shower if the weather had been better.
But it had been standing too long and had lost too much charge, never mind just get a jump on Sunday morning - nope my jump leads were too puny!

So next time I'll double check what I'm plugging in and charge the spare the night before and get some proper jump leads!

The car was eventually started the following day after the race by the rescue man.

I did learn a new party trick though which not only impressed my son but the campers next along as well.

Spend triple the amount you expect for a jump leads and its worth it.

Buy diesel leads 35mm2 minimum and then up to 3500 or 4000 cc.

Its an investment worthwile

I use the equivalent jump lead size of welding cables to start our range of V8 powered run-arounds (the smallest being 5.7 litre)  Grin
