Fuel protests! The French it would seem are revolting
« on: May 27, 2008, 03:04:01 pm »
I know there is always a bit of a panic this time of year as the odd French Fishing person elects to blockade the odd port, but I can't help feeling that this time it might just be a little more serious. Is there anyone on the ground that could provide a French perspective on the potential seriousness of the dispute. I can't help feeling that our reports are possibly a little exaggerated. Thanks. Things look settled on Monday, but the fisherman have blockaded Dunkerque again, causing ferry problems.  It is getting worryingly close to the time when everybody will be heading over here - those coming this weekend for PQ are well advised to check what the ships are doing, in advance, and everybody should top up with fuel before leaving the UK (the prices are very similar now, so you wouldn't save much) in case we get back to the problems of last week, when many garages were closed or rationing fuel.

There is also severe flooding in some parts of France (further South than here) so things ain't good at the moment.  I will try to keep you updated.

Last week the cheeky Jean-Claudes were taking "direct action" over Sarko's public sector pension reforms. If it's not one thing with them, it's another. :(
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

Just in refrence to this thread title "The French it would seem are revolting"

isn't that redundant?

'Action Directe' were a French terrorist organisation in the 80's.
