I started with an SLR at Sebring last year and was happy with Photos but then got some absolute corkers later in the year. Everyone is right by sticking with Manual and getting used to panning first. Shutter speed will be the first thing to get used to. (Much faster then the old digi).
After a while you will get to learn shutter speed and other settings that will get the shot that you are after. Alternatively wait until the 2008 CA guide as I think there is going to be a how to use you camera guide.
BTW it is not always how you use the camera, most how you compose you shots. Something in the foreground can ofter make the picture, sometimes it can ruin a good one.
I will be at Oulton Park from Friday Afternoon until Monday late. (Just back from Sebring)

I can understand all the comments made but my digi-conversion went like this:-
I've used Olympus OM 1, 2 & 2N for about 25-30 years and got really peed off with the failure rate at LM, 'stone, Oulton etc. The processing costs were becomming astrinomical.
So I bought a 'pocket' digi camera (again Olympus) so long shots were on film, local shots on digi.
Last year I bought DSLR (again Olympus - E500 with 2 zooms). Quality is great, failure rate negligible.
It is very different from 'film' photography and you have to start somewhere. Auto is the best place to start.
Then try learning the 'programme' modes. Then mucking about with the ISO settings. It costs nothing to muck about compared to film.
BTW, I will not sell my old cameras as they are part of the family and it's nice occasionally to go back to basics.

totally agree and thats what im playing with the shutter speed. with the help of FS hes going to help me and it means alot to me - thanks mate  cheers guys!! |
