Was originally planning a full 14 night stay in Scotsdale, we might still do this either by package or independently.

However, looking through loads of agent leaflets, a spark hit my brains thinking side!! (not really much left there about hiring a camper.

Having loved my ownership time of a Merc' chassised one and doing LM several times. Has anyone any experience of hiring in the 'States and what are the possible downfalls of arranging independantly?

Leftie, me old china plate.

Myself and my beloved have twice hired an RV, both for 2 weeks, from http://www.cruiseamerica.com/.
First time was a round trip Vegas, Arizona Route 66, Grand Canyon south rim, Monument Valley, various national parks in Utah, Vegas.
Second time was San Fran, Yosemite, Vegas, Grand Canyon south rim, Sedona, Phoenix AZ, Joshue Tree nat park, LA, Big Sur, San Fran.

Definately worth the money for your own indepandance, plus the camp grounds at KampGrounds of America http://www.koa.com/ are well run and a breeze to use - full hook ups etc.

We're seriously thinking of doing it all over again.  If you want any further info, please ask.

Leftie,

Talk to Nopanic......he did the hiring bit on the west coast a couple of momths ago.

Drove from Seattle down to somewhere in Oregan........and booked it indepentantly.

He flew with some obscure airline ,who he said the cabin service was bar none and best of all the price was the best of the lot........beats BA and Virgin ...Hands down.

Two immediately come to mind:-

Long Beach on 29th April - erindorz birthday,

Salt Lake on 18th May - my birthday treat.

Now all I need to do is convince her!!!!!

If you would want to choose between the two, I'd go for Long Beach. I don't even think Salt Lake has any spectator facilities at all and Long Beach is supposed to be good.

Long Beach would be the one to go for, ALMS and Champcar on the same bill.  A great, festive weekend, the LBGP weekend is one of THE race meetings of the year in the US.  Salt Lake has spectator facilites, but its built to FIA F1 specs, basically meaning your going to need field glasses to see the action from the spectator areas.
