There were a few can-am cars at Coys Silverstone a few years ago but I haven't seen any for a while Sad.

I guess as Fax said people aren't racing them due to the value (and there prob back in the states anyway)

Hi Termie,
I think thats a different film.  Last time I heard, The Speed Odyssey was due out any day now.  Its supposed to have over nintey minutes of original Can-Am footage.  Looking forward to it enormously.
Fax
Yum, yum.  It's on order and they've promised to let me know when it's sent.
I did order the other one too....

This is the info regarding Can-Am, A Speed Odyessy from the Motorsport Collectors website.
By far the most anticipated new arrival here at TMC in quite some time. Producer Robert Nevison now tells us that he expects to release his DVD in early to mid February. After uncovering more film footage that was originally thought to exist, Nevison has been working seven days a week assembling what is sure to be a mind blower. From the 70 minutes of coverage originally promised, we're now told the program has grown to a full 100 minutes of full color, original, Unlimited Sports Car footage without an increase in the $34.95 retail price.
Wohoo!

Now that's what I call a good reason for delaying something.

Word is that at long last, Can-Am The Speed Odyssey, is know in stock. Smiley  Wohoo!
www.motorsportcollector.com
Hoping my copy arrives in the next day or so.  The word on the delay was that they had fits converting the old analog film to digital format.
Looks like Paul has set up a nice Can-Am page with other goodies from the era of unlimited sportscar racing.

6 Can-Am cars came out here for the Southern Festival of Speed historic race series in February. It was the first time there had been a race for Can Am cars in these parts, and I was lucky enough to be in the pits with Eoin Young and Wally Wilmott (two of McLaren's founders).

An amazing spectacle!

I have finally had a chance to view it...
Its quite good.  Not great, but very good.  On the plus side, most of the archive footage is brilliant, and the interviews with the likes of Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Mark Donohue, Peter Revson, etc. are priceless.  The down side?  Some of the archive footage is so grainy and poor, it bears wondering why they used it at all. The editing is choppy and the narration is a bit strange too, especially because Sam Posey is always so eloquent.  The script he works with is too "See Spot, see Spot run" for my taste.  Overall worth the dosh just for the footage and interviews alone.

It took them a while to respond, but I finally got this email this morning:

Quote
Dear Patrick,

According to our records, you have a copy of 'Can Am: The Speed Odyssey'
on a PAL format DVD on order with The Motorsport Collector.

We no longer have any confidence that the Producer of this DVD, Ardennes Productions, will deliver this item as promised.

As a result, we have decided to end our relationship with them.

At this time, we have a small quantity of NTSC format DVDs of this program available for $34.95 plus shipping.

If you wish to change your order to NTSC, please contact us as soon as possible.

If an NTSC DVD is not acceptable to you, we must consider your order as canceled.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

The Motorsport Collector

Well, nowadays it shouldn't be a problem with a region free player Grin
