cos some spam filters look for a percentage factor of dodgy words in each email.  If they add a pile of words that are safe then there is more chance that the email will get through!

Spam emails are sent for a number of reasons.

That one looks to me to be an attempt to get you to subscribe to some porn site.  Or may be they are trying to sell you a mail order bride.

As geoffd said the "ramdom" text is to disrupt the spam detectors.

Personaly I have found that the combination of greylisting and using a real time blacklist stops most of my spam.

The biggest reason (I'm told) is to find 'live' accounts. If you mail them to say why are you sending me this carp then they know thay have hit a live address and your added to the list of 'spamable' targets which is sold to all the spam rings out there. Simple action, delete 'em without replying (and if you use outlook, turn off your preview window as that's the same as opening a mail).

Just deleting them won't help. They send emails in the tens of thousands, just making up combinations of names. (This bit has been going on for donkeys years - I remember when I worked at a large office in centrel London getting cold calling insurance salesmen - they'd call the switchboard and ask for John Smith, switchboard would put them through...)

If the name doesn't exist then more often than not the ISP will auto-reply saying no such name - then they just strike them from the list. All others are therefore hits...

You should do what I've done, and lose your email address. I hardly get any spam now...

btw in case anyone wondered, due to being away and computer problems I failed to renew geoffmorgan.com, it went into redemption, I paid $99 to get it back but it was too late. You can mail me at geoff-at-geoffmorgan.co.uk until i get it back (not long now...). smokie-at-stones.com works too.
