HI,

I was wondering who is going to Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta next month. So who's attending from Florida / Turn 10 etc and whos traveling from the UK, Holland and Canada etc.  If you are going, please can you post your arrival plans so that I can start to hopefully work my own plans out this coming week. Pointless me arriving Wednesday if there will be none else there.

Thanks

Hi Dirk,

Sounds good and I have now finalized my own plans. My friend and i are flying into Atlanta arriving Thursday at approx 16.15hrs. We are then finding a hotel for my friend as he doesn't want to camp at the track. After a swift shower, we are then going to Road Atlanta and will watch night practise if there is any. I will be staying over at the track so that i can socialise and get drunk afterwards and my mate is going back to the hotel for the night. My friend will then return on Friday morning. Not sure about sleeping arrangements yet for Thursday night but will bring my tent across the pond if needs be but seems like overkill when i only need it for one night.

Late afternoon, we are leaving the track and going to the Atlanta Thrashers NHL ice hockey game in Atlanta which is a 19.30 hrs face off. Going to stay friday night at the hotel with my friend as its not worth the trip back to Road Atlanta when there will be a bed closer to Atlanta. First thing Saturday we will arrive at the track for the race in good time.

We too are going to the Nascar at Talladega on Sunday but like i did two years ago, we are leaving immediately after the chequered flag at Petit and setting off towards Talladega. Its a good 3 1/2 hour drive in a car without any traffic problems and traffic starts building up at Talladega at around 8 am sunday morning.

So Saturday night, we will drive around Atlanta towards Dega and stop at the visitor centre / rest area just across the state border in Alabama.  Alabama allows people to sleep in their vehicles on the rest areas but Georgia does not, so we are sleeping in the back of the mini van that night and there are toilets in the morning and a coffee machine. From there its about an hours drive to Dega and we hope to arrive for around 8am. The race starts at 1pm but theres plenty to see and do outside and the Alabama  Hall of Fame and Museum is well worth a visit.

We then fly back on Tuesday 9th.

Have you booked tickets for Talladega yet ? We have seats on Row 41 of the Moss Thornton Tower over looking the start finish line.

Self and Mrs. Fax are driving down Friday afternoon.  Crash in a hotel Friday night, then tent it at the circuit Sat. night.  Head back north Sunday.

Hi Randy,

Glad you are making the trip too, When you say, kit, please can you clarify what is included in "Kit" so that I know what to bring, and what to leave at home. basically all I need for the night are a tent / sleeping space and an airbed if possible. The rest i can carry in including a sleeping bag, pillow, beer, and clothes for the next day etc.

Its getting close now. Too close actually as my house needs a sh*t load of cleaning and sorting so that Vinnies Vice and stay here while i am away.

My mate has been to the races and is a 20 year le mans veteran, but he said that camping at Le mans is enough for him these days so would prefer a hotel.
He also goes to Sebring every year but always stays in a hotel in Orlando. He's not a drinker though, which may have something to do with not camping at the track.

So just me in need of a tent etc.

Thanks Randy,
Tent and mattress sounds good, but i will be bringing a sleeping bag with me as i need it for sleeping in the minivan enroute to Talladega.

I mentioned to my mate about your comments about not being a proper race fan so he asked me to post the following.

Since attending 20 Le Mans 24 Hours in a row since 1988, 12 of the last 13 Daytona 24 Hours, 6 consecutive Sebring 12 Hours, two Petit Le Mans (1998 and 2002) and this will be his third, doesn't seem to make him a proper race fan ! Then he has asked if you could make him an honoury race fan for the weekend at Petit ! Grin

Regards
Chris

Thats just great Chris.I have never met your friend and he already thinks I am a prick! Grin
I never said he was not a proper race fan at all.
I just dont understand why anyone go to races and not drink and then sleep on the ground. Grin
I am looking forward to meeting your friend, sounds like we have attended alot of the same races.
