About time!! the first Porsche spyder to race in Europe has been brought by a Dutch (god help us!!!) team, Equipe Verschuur. Not a team I have ever heard of.

I do not think it will race until next year and could well be a 2 hand car from either Penske or a third hand one from Dryson.

From what I understood they will run the LMS season to start off with, so logically thinking they would wait untill the '08-season.

I am sure this 'development' will be watched closely by other LMP2 teams and the ACO.

It could certainly kick off some changes within the field.

People will either try and go the same route or desert the category because they cannot compete in terms of money or technical development.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

You don't win Le Mans - you outlast it.

They do Renault Clio stuff and such like. The Spyder will be quite a challenge for them.

So, if Dryson is involved, will they use clean carpets as well?

Good news for our European colleagues, you'll love the Porkers.  Curious to see how much support this team gets from the factory.  Obviously Penske gets all the latest bits.  Like you said, I suspect this will be a three year old car.

Nope, it's a brand spanking new one. It'll be built at Weissach this coming Autumn with several of the team's technicians present to assist in the build and familiarise themselves with their new toy.

Yep, their car is not even built. They say this on their home page at http://www.equipe-verschuur.nl/ under "Porsche RS" at the end of the page. Have they won in the lottery ? I was sure we'll never see a Porsche Spyder in Europe.

Interesting times ahead... I'm looking forward to a comparison against the other LMP2s.

Nothing new to the conversation, but this is what PH are reporting. (sorry for looking at the darkside)

PORSCHE RS SPYDER TO COMPETE IN EUROPE
Dutch team to race Porsche at Le Mans

Team principal Frans VerschuurA Dutch team will become the first customer entrant of a Porsche RS Spyder in Europe. The Penske-run ‘works’ cars have proved very successful in the ALMS series in the US over the past couple of seasons, but this announcement will see Porsche returning once again to the sharp end of the grid at le Mans.

VM Motorsport by Equipe Verschuur will contest the full 2008 Le Mans series as well as the famous 24 hour race.

Team principal Frans Verschuur says about the Porsche project: “It is a logical next step in the development of our team. In the past few years, the Le Mans Series with its 1000-kilometre races at famous race tracks has developed itself to a professional race category and is a very attractive playing field. Additionally, we plan to enter the Le Mans 24 Hours, which is of course a major challenge for any team.”

The near-500bhp LMP2 car will be built at Weissach this autumn while drivers for the team are yet to be decided.

Good news!

A second Porsche is coming to Europe next year.

Horag Racing have agreed to run a car for its long time paring of Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys. Both drivers, while not in the first flush of youth are pretty handy.

Looks like LMP2 will be different next year. In the last years finishing the race without too much trouble usually brought you on the podium or even gave you a class win at Le Mans - but with 2 Porsches we might actually see some real racing in that class... Grin

Very happy that our British/Euro based CA colleagues (who haven't made the trip over for a ALMS round) will finally get to see the little Stuttgart screamers in person.  The Lista squad is a crack outfit so you know they'll be properly prepared.  Can't help but think, that as we were watching Didier Theys looking on as his battered Maserati was being lifted into the transporter torward the end of the Petit, his thoughts are already on getting his hands on the RS Spyder.

With refrence to the latter, I can tell you that is already decided. Only not made public yet Wink
