Dear USGP Fan: I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has worked toward securing a Formula One event in 2008 and beyond. After my recent meetings with Formula One Ltd. CEO Bernie Ecclestone, we have mutually agreed to not schedule Formula One racing at Indianapolis in 2008. It has been a pleasure having the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis, and I hope that as we approach our Centennial Era at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, an opportunity might present itself that would allow its return. I would like to take this time to thank you for your support of Formula One and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over the past eight years. Although the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will not be hosting a Formula One race in 2008, we are always looking to the future. With that in mind, we will have a historic motorsports announcement at 3:30 p.m. ET Monday, July 16. I want to strongly encourage you to log on to http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com to view this special event. On behalf of the Hulman-George family and the staff at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, thank you again for your patience and understanding, and I hope that you consider attending one of our events in 2008. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at (800) 822–INDY or (317) 492–6700 if we can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Tony George So much for a $60 F1 race in my backyard. This is what happens when you have two megalomaniacs at the bargaining table, one being a blithering idiot.

I'll bet it was an easy one to drop to shoe-in another far east event where thay have less issues over what sponsorship is on the cars etc. I've never been but is it well attended? Indy can hold heaps of spectators so if it was 'looking empty' BE may have tried pulling it on 'image' grounds ?

Do we think this is legit? AFAIK the correct entity should be Formula One Administration (FOA) or Formula One Management (FOM)?

I heard it on the News tonight as well. Though I can't say that I'm really bothered about it anyway.

It's on Crash.net so I guess its legit.
I'm not entirely surprised, too much pressure for new fly away rounds for some of the rounds that are perceived as less successful to continue

Not surprised at all, after the tire fiasco a few years ago I thought the race was on thin ice. With the exception of the first year, I don't think it ever drew the attendace they anticipated. I won't really miss it, crappy circuit. Perhaps Bernie's cronies will finally come to their senses and put the race back at a proper road racing venue and stop dicking around with temporary street circuits or combination oval/road course layouts. The only way they'll draw a big crowd is to move it to a real road course, US F1 fans won't be dupped into watching F1 cars scrabble around a shitty little street course. Looks like MotoGP is on the cards for the Speedway though. Fax

Actually WHY does Bernie constantly let circuits be rebuilt for millions and then depart forever after two/three tries? I bet Spa will be out after 2009

Indy was always a sh*t idea all day long, Bernie got his wad and that was that. He's the greatest con artist we've seen for years filling his pockets with all the other suckers money. Maxwell did a great job, Brown has done better raping the pensions but Ecclescakes stands on his own bar non. He's a money grabbing shortarsed c**t, and he doesn't give a f**k, cos he has f**k*ng BILLIONS
The upside is that the octagarian Ecclestone will die sooner than we do the, freeking f**k*ng migdet c**t. He needs to buy a boat from a close (dodgy) friend just as Maxwell and do the honourable thing and SHOVE THAT BOAT RIGHT UP HIS TIGHT FECKING ARSE.
I bet his missus is wishing the day that he f**k*ng dies so that she can go shopping in ASDA rather than H A Rods

I personally hate the horrid little cnut too, as does Lady PP and her mother. they were hoping for a Tasmanian GP but bernie said that dirt roads were not suitable and all cities were too small and full of retards/criminals. he will be tarred and feathered if he shows his weasley face in hobart... let alone smithdon! ^ No. Spa was originally at risk because of tobacco advertising. Bernie owns Paul Ricard, IIRC.
