1st gig - Santana Stafford Bingley Hall I think in 1979, awesome, played Moonflower from start to end
Best gig - for sheer excitement was Led Zep at Knebworth 1979, sad to say but I cried when they kicked off with Rock n Roll, for entertainment maybe Peter Gabriels last tour or Dave (thank god for viagra) Lee Roth I think about two years ago, he was awesome at Manchester Apollo
Worst gig - Beach Boys also at Knebworth...walked out after 10 minutes of them.
Best album - impossible to choose, but if I had to it would be The Wall cos its got my fave song on it...Comfortably Numb.
Best Le Mans album - Van Halen Van Halen.
With you on the best gig Jem. I had a ticket for Led Zep at Earls Court 1975 but couldn't get a lift when thumbing it on the A1 and missed the gig. Then went to work in Saudi but just had to break my contract and resign when Zep announced the Knebworth gigs in 1979. I lost about £9k in earnings and went both weeks. Just THE most awesome experience I have ever been through. Agree Rock n Roll as a starter was emotional but what about Kashmir? Mindblowing!!!! The gig could be heard in Stevenage I'll have you know!
Zeppelin and bloody proud of it.
Other momentous gigs:
Bon Jovi in Las Vegas
Van Halen, Newcastle City Hall and The Rainbow in Finsbury Park
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt
Aerosmith, Reading Festival

I'm another one who lost his gig virginity at Stafford Bingley Hall! Blue Oyster Cult in 1979 (I think?). Completely unmemorable apart from hearing (Don't fear) The Reaper before it was a hit, that and the fact there was only about fifty people there that night! Our school was dead opposite The Village in Newport High Street and I heard the Sex Pistols do a sound check from outside  and also other bands like the Ruts, just before Malcolm Owen drank and heroined himself to death. Pete Docherty truly reminds me of Malcolm and the end will likely be the same. |

Thought I'd join in on this one.
First Gig: Gong - Hammersmith Palais circa 1977. Talk about getting high on the atmosphere, no need to roll your own, just breathe in and away you go. Made Yes, Genesis etc. and their other contemporaries seem positively normal.
Worst Gig: The Runaways - The (now sadly gone) Roundhouse. They looked great but the musicianship was appaling.
Best Gig: Thin Lizzy - Gloucester, during the Thunder & Lightning Tour. Lynott really did have some presence and they were *ecking loud, but considerably more melodic that Ted Nugent.
Best album: difficult to say as different days require different moods.

I'll join the club as well, that was a great five days, also I remember seeing Jethro Tull, The Doors, and The Who there. We went from the to Insel Fehmarn the following week, which was Hendrix's last gig. |

We went from the to Insel Fehmarn the following week, which was Hendrix's last gig. sh*t, I didn't know that. I've been telling people for years that I saw Hendrix's last gig. A good forum to chat about rock music is www.keno.org It's an American based site that is very serious about rock music. I used to log on and chat quite a bit, but when Pete Townsend was investigated for allegeded child porn on his computer my joking comment was "I bet he wishes he had never written The Kid's are alright" Jesus, you'd have thought I had commited treason. These guys wanted to hang me out to dry. Serious or what. That's what we English do. Laugh in the face of adversity. I havn't been back since, but, if you are into rock music give them a try. |
