As we have some formidable brain power within CA, I thought how do I do this. I'm not talking about plonking a camera on the dash etc.

The following link is a few laps around a closed LM in a 2.5 GT6 (5 speed), ok mine is a 2.0 convertable model but the exhausts are the same and the noise is the same. And I know how to swap engines and G/boxes.   He's a fellow TSCC member.

Although I've spoken to the guy, I'm still baffled.

What would I need to do to instal 2 cameras with sound, what recording medium and what camera switching method?

Any idea on UK costs? or should I try a well known auction site?

I think I can do the editing bit with the programmes I already have.

Any ideas?

Jerry

PS.  My backing music would be more like Floyd or Dire Straights and maybe a smidgin' of Golden Earring and Kraftwerk.

At my age, it takes me all night to do what I used to do all night!!!!!!!!!!!
Then, growing old is compulsary, but growing up is just optional.

I don't do GREEN, I've got a 4x4

There are devices nowardays which mount a camera onto a petrol tank of a motorbike, so there should definitely be something around for a car dashboard. Maybe a microphone with an extention cable would be nice, put the mic somewhere in the engine compartment near the manifold Wink

Camera... Typically use robust "Bullet" Camera (google that) some have audio some dont,

Sound ... fancy mike if you want to avoid too much wind noise.

Recording... either Video camera with line-in or solid state flash recorder.

Then lots of work editing stuff together afterwards;)

I'm no expert, but it sounds as if the noise levels have exceeded the limit for the mic in that clip. It sounds distorted / overloaded.

To avoid direct wind noise add a foam wind sock to the mic. It is designed in such a way that it will stop direct excitation of the mic due to the physical airflow without blocking out (muffling) the sounds you want to record.

Also be aware of how and where the mic is mounted, as structural noise (interference / vibration) can distort the results. Maybe that is what has happened in the above clip.

It might be worth doing some trial dummy runs to check the results, as too much noise will overshadow the visual results. Personally it needs to be a balance of aural and visual for really good in car camera stuff.

Demon Tweeks do some of the stuff you will need; switching, cameras, mounts, etc.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/search.asp?keyword=Cameras&classCode=all&brandCode=all&x=23&y=10&page=1

Although I doubt they are the best place to buy from as getting your technical questions answered might be frustrating.
