Wonderful pictures, I would guess they are not from the same race? the one with the 747 in the background and the 512 looks like the Brands, the plane must have been a dummy or a very big hoarding?
Not sure where the other comes from a.

My memory is as faded as the pics. I was of coure wrong about the first 2 (know nothing at all about hairy planes!), they were taken at Thruxton in 1969. Of course the one with the planes is the BOAC 1000, and that was April 1970. Doh.  |

By coincidence there is a rather nice poster from the BOAC 1000 Brands Hatch in April 1970 on *bay finishing in around an hour!!! Bit out of my price range tho. F |

That 747 in the back ground was the first BA (BOAC then) jumbo, as going to their history site 1971 On 14 April BOAC operated its first commercial Boeing 747 flight (G-AWNF, Heathrow-JFK).

On 14 April BOAC operated its first commercial Boeing 747 flight (G-AWNF, Heathrow-JFK).
What history a pic can tell. Blimey, they only had 2 days to tow it back to LHR - obviously the M25 moved faster in those days.... !!  F ( P.S. I do of course realise that the M25 wasnt built then, I was just using it for comedy effect... before the anoraks attack!! ) |

I was there, but I can't remeber exactly, but you'd never land a 747 at Brands

VC10 - what year was that?
Ohh my Dad used to fly VC10s for BOAC!!!! I hope you werent gonna be insulting his memory!!!  My uncle was a flight engineer on VC10's for BOAC. He used to call them "The Queen of the Sky" Chances are they knew each other, it wasn't a huge fleet! Blimey, my dad was also a Flight engineer with BOAC on VC10's, and my mum was a stewardess...I'll leave the rest to your imagination. He later went on to fly DC10's in the late 70s and 747s until he retired. I'd lay money on Your uncle & my dad knowing each other as you say, not many of them around.  |
