After some discussion yesterday on the '08 bookings thread, I e-mailed the ACO about HA and its future. They replied this morning "In effect, Houx Annexe will no longer exist next year."

Extra pressure on camping space from next year then. Well done the ACO. And to think I have just been praising them elsewhere just a few moments ago!

Shocking - HA was my choice in the mid-80ies when you could still buy HA campsite passes at the gate. The place has a lot of capacity, looks like we'll have a big a** problem next year

The site does not belong to the ACO, it is private land. The football (for god's sake ) stadium project has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with them.

I'm sure they will find another place. Lets face it thats a lot of camping places and they have to put the people some place. Plus they are not going to want to loose all that money. Though it may be a Bigger BSJ. I'm sure we will find out in due course.

Well, it shoiud be interesting next year. I have applied for HA as a first choice and MB as a second. What's the betting I end up with BSJ. The problem with that is, I can never get there until Friday morning and would have to go to the back of the site which, if they keep expanding it, would be nearer to Arnage corner than the village. This is where you kind folk on MB can really earn some Brownie points by saving space for someone who will probably be known as an ex HAer.
Football? I bloody hate football.

Bob You may be even more unlucky and end up on MB . At least you'd have a numbered pitch allocated. I'm gonna miss the old MB vs HA feud. I echo your sentiments about a certain 'sport' Del

Well, we can start a nice "Footy Free Zone" on MB then. Do you think the ACO would play ball? Sorry.

Oh, heck.
Do you know if 'my beloved' Karting Nord is owned by the ACO or a third party?
I suppose this means all the existing campsites are going to become even more crowded.
And it will put an end to maddness at the roundabout.

what a sad day.
Been staying on the Annexe or the old Houx since the late 80's when you could just turn up at the gate and get the tickets.
Will have to look around the other sites and see which one we fancy for 08.
Maybe the ACO will suprise us with a new site to replace it.

As far as I am aware, only the land within the Bugatti circuit and the areas alonside - but within the fence are actually owned by the ACO (hence all the shyness about pre-planning dates etc!) However, the Alain Prost (karting) circuit, is also an ACO venue, but I think just the circuit and its car park - not the site.

They never can. This must be on a level with the retirements of Concorde, The Deltic class locomotive, Martin Johnson and the break up of Cream. How can you replace the irreplacable. It will be a sad departure day on Monday.

Well said. Leaving on Monday is always sad, but that tops it. And then it's history...

Apart from 1 year in KN (and MB for the Classic), I've always used Houx Annexe. I'm not denying the forthcoming closure was unexpected, with the tramway and forthcoming stadium, we weren't all kidding ourselves that HA would live forever. However, 2007 will be a special and sad year for us HA'ers - this will be the last time that we will enjoy the lush verdant grass, lakeside views and sandy tracks of Houx Annexe
