On the Block: Phil Hill Ferrari
Ferrari will celebrate the upcoming Mille Miglia by cleaning out its closet and the closets of some of its private collectors as it auctions off select bits of Ferrari history, including a Le Mans-winning race car driven by Phil Hill. RM Auctions says it will sell the only 4.0-liter Ferrari Testa Rossa ever built at auction on May 20. The auction will take place in Maranello in a series of sales dubbed "Leggenda e Passione," and will also highlight several other important Ferraris from the marque's racing history. The 4.0-liter car is the last Testa Rossa built by Ferrari, the auction house says. The '62 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa is the last front-engine car to win atLe Mans, at the hands of Road & Track eminence Phil Hill and co-pilot Olivier Gendebein in their third Le Mans victory. It's owned today by a U.S. collector. RM says that with the car's provenance and unique place in history, it could fetch an estimated $8 million to $10 million at auction. It will be offered alongside a 1970 512 S raced by Luigi Chinetti; a 1953 340MM with a coachbuilt Touring Spyder body; a '66 Dino 206 SP, fully restored; and a 1997 Formula One car.

Phil Hill Ferrari Fetches $9.3M
When the gavel fell on the last car for auction, Ferrari's "Leggenda e Passione" sale of a clutch of classic Ferraris from its own archives and from its owners' garages had ended in history.
The auction of 33 cars was highlighted by the sale of a 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa, the last one built by the company. The car in question - also the last front-engine car to win at Le Mans, at the hands of Road & Track eminence Phil Hill and co-pilot Olivier Gendebein in their third Le Mans victory - sold for $9.3 million, the highest figure recorded for a public auction, the Wall Street Journal reports.
RM Auctions, which ran the sale, had estimated that with the car's provenance and unique place in history, it might fetch $8 million to $10 million.
The total take for the auction was more than $46 million, with more than a third of the vehicles sold fetching more than $1 million, the Journal adds.
The Testa Rossa was offered alongside a 1970 512 S raced by Luigi Chinetti; a 1953 340MM with a coachbuilt Touring Spyder body; a '66 Dino 206 SP, fully restored; and a 1997 Formula One car.

These prices are getting as high as in the late 80's. will the bubble burst, are we in for a big wake up call again? I know a guy with a lightweight E-Type that he bought in the boom for silly money. Its hidden in a garage now with an old Fergie blocking the doors. Word has it he cannot bare the sight of it as it lost him so much money. Shame as its said to be a great car.
