As is customary I gave the new F1 season a chance by watching the opening race.  Although I wasn't prepared to stay up into the small hours to watch the race live I did, in true 'Likely Lads' fashion, avoid all news reports before the full TV re-run of the race.

I shouldn't have bothered.

I do extend hearty congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for having such a succesful debut, but as a spectacle - yawn, yawn.

Having really enjoyed GP in the (dim and distant) past I will probably watch again in the hope that an exciting sport will be reborn.  I really am a glutton for punishment.

Yep, stayed up after the Sebring coverage and gave it a watch.  Kimi could very well win every race this season if the car doesn't fail.  Agreed, outstanding debut for Hamilton.  And, what the hell was Coulthard thinking?

Just assumed he was trying to liven things up a bit - can see no other reason for that particular move otherwise  Grin

I agree with the sentiments - I stayed up to watch it after Sebring finished.  Well, I started watching it, but found it beats counting sheep.  Woke up to see the last lap.

What did DC do - spin off in the pit lane again??  Missed that bit.

Not a great start to the season excitment wise.

I also thought the cars looked horrific, tiny wings sprouting of any and every panel.

Hamilton could well turn into a great star, but does anyone else think he was, well a bit over groomed? the guy has talent in spades, but unless he is allowed to show some of his personality we could end up with a British Shumacher.

Coulthard really needs to hang up his helmet, never thought he was a great, but he has hung in there well and drawn out a middling career as much as possible, but his move on Wurz was a major misjudgement IMHO.

I will tune in for another go to give it another chance.

I did find myself drawn to watch the highlights through sheer curiousity having just watched a re-run of the MotoGP race from Doha as I missed it the other week due to ski-ing. MotoGP was as good as expected, F1 was as dull as expected.
Those F1 boys really are nothing more than overpaid corporately polished mute sandwich boards.

I'll give the rest of the F1 season a miss I've better things to do like sitting in a dark cupboard under my stairs with a sack over my head and a chair leg up my arse, roll on Jerez this weekend.

I thought it was just me.  I tried to watch the race but found it as uninteresting as the pre-race piece with that dude walking from car to car and asking dumb questions of the drivers.  Only Jackie Stewart and Sterling Moss sounded half way intelligent.  So I watched the first 10 minutes of the race and turned it off.  What's wrong with me?  How come I can't connect to F-1 and NASCAR?  I feel that there is something wrong with me.  Please help me, anybody>>>>>>>>>

No getting away from it he's a major talent, he has however fallen in with the wrong crowd. Anyone who spends their formative years being groomed by Ron Dennis is bound to end up like some kind of automaton. The sponsors will love him though, just think of the possibilities, I bet Ron already has....

I do hope I am completely wrong of course.

Even if we did I don't think it would be enough.  I fear that no amount of excited commentary will paper over the cracks of what looks like being a very dull season.

Only once was I dragged away from watching the paint that i had just applied dry! That was when DC tried to lived things up. Congrates to Hamilton and to Mr Dennis, its good to see that he has benifited from Rons coaching - Ron's a racer at hart, yes he's very slick at the corporate side the pioson midget has created, but its apart of the current game! I suspect that theirs nothing more that Ron would like than to turn the clock back 20 years.
