Hi folks

All back safe and sound (even though a little sunburnt). Wasn't it a great weekend ?

On my way back, we noticed loads of Police speed controls and I saw loads of cars pulled. How many of you got pulled, and how much did you have to pay ?

We took the way back to Calais, and saw about 6 or 7 police controls on our way. I am guessing that the stretch between Le Mans and St Malo was worse ?

Greetings
Mad

We went on the motorway to Paris then up to Rouen via Evreux. It was clear all the way until you hit Rouen and I noticed 4 patrols all stopping people. After Rouen up to Caleis it was clear.

Fully loaded my truck won't go above 70 so I' was OK.

Well, although I didnt camp (wimp you all called me!) just got back, didnt see a single Police trap from Alecncon to Caliais, left Alencon at about 9 and no problems. For all of those who have been wondering the Lancia gave no trouble at all, well, except the cooling fan, the left hand front indicator and the speedo, Oh, and it the battery went flat, and it didn't want to start once, but, really, 100% reliability. Thats what you get when you buy quality... The trip was great, I was a bit startled when a Zonda overtook me, not the fact that he overtook me but I was doing 100+ and I'm damn sure he was going at least 50 mph quicker. And all the TVR's on the road, I never knew there were that many, well, not that ran anyway.

There was nothing between Le mans and Alencon, but we did see three speed traps between Alencon and Rouen on the N138.

Tell a lie, we only saw one cop car with a radar, the other two must have been well hidden but we saw three lots of pull over cars just off roundabouts. Approx 6 cars each time, with police bikes. All Lotus's, Caterhams, Evo's etc.

Regards
Chris

Fortunately, the mini buses top speed was 80 mph.

I saw a few groups of cars pulled over at roundabouts, but like Chris24 we didnt see the guys who were catching them, just the ones booking them.

At the last toll plaza before calais the gendarme was standing just past the booths waving people over to the side for a slapping. Again, didnt see who had caught them speeding, looks like they have stealthy radar traps

A few of out group got breath tested... all okay though.

One got booked down Mulsanne for 'excessive noise'  Cheesy - I think that was a 40 euro fine.

I left the circuit after the race on Sunday, drove to Chartes (hmmm spelling!), then up to Dreux where we arrived in time to see the Canadiadian Grand Prix, then drove up to Calais yesterday, passing through Rouen.  A high speed run and I didn't see a single trap.

On the way out howerver there was a jam around Argentan, a few British cars sneaked down the inside lane, barging in at the front.  I was most amused to see some of them stopped by the police about 2 miles further down the road!

Had a cracking run.  One of our virgins got a 90 euro fine for driving the wrong way up a one way in Arnage, as he was lost.
Manage to get the Disco up to 120 on a downhill stretch only to meet the police escorting a wide load.  Slammed on the anchors and came to a halt but the copper just told us to pull over to allow the convoy to pass.

I know one group who got a 90 Euro fine on the way down, and another guy who got 60 Euros for riding his motorbike without his helmet on.

Other than that, our group fortunately were trouble free!

We were 'minding our own business' on Friday afternoon between Porsche Curves and Arnage watching the misbehaving.  I got caught by the gendames for pouring water in front of the rear tyres of a friends cobra so that he could do a more realistic burnout.
They confiscated the gallon of water and, apparently after translation, said if I came down to the police station in the van I could have it back......I declined their offer.

Didn't see any traps to St. Malo on Monday morning.

We did blow a tyre on the van though  Angry - probably bacause the van's not supposed to have 5 guys, all our kit and go at 80mph... Was a bit hairy changing the wheel at the start of an exit slip road... Anyone who saw us, thanks for pulling into the left lane as you passed!

We were passed by a Nobel M12 , we were doing a steady 130k and he came past like we were standing still- sounded awsome!! I guess he was caught by the trap just before the last toll booths on the road to Calais....

'Poetic Justice" award goes to the guys who tried passing a slow line of traffic only to have to pull in sharpish nearly rear-ending my mate! Saw some of  them later being talked to... Smiley  (Note- if you drive a bit more carefully maybe your girlfriend won't throw up!!)

I think we saw more 'brain dead'driving on the way home this year than we have in a while! Is it worth it just to catch a boat?

All in all, a fantastic weekend- roll on next year!!!

Good run back, took the old N138 all the way to Caen, leaving Karting Nord at 6.30, arriving at 9.30.   Only saw 2 disinterested gendarmes near Falaise and very few people out waving.   No problems and wondered where the rest of the world had got to.

Looks like all the speed traps were to the west of le mans.
"Eddie the chef  aka Fat Boy",got pulled for speeding at st.suzanne on thursday morning.
The story goes like this.

I was leading ,overtook a truck slowed down for eddie and low and behold a curteous french driver flashed his lights,so I slowed down a bit more .
Eddie overtook the truck to catch me up and went through the speed trap doing 95kph in a 60 limit"Oops" Cheesy

Drove throug the village and this Gendarme bike cop sprinted out into the road and flagged me to pull in!!!
I turned towads him and he waved at me to get out of the way.

At that point eddie can round the corner and was nabbed.

Here comes the fun part!!!!

After checking his documents the gendarme aske for his driving licence"Sorry guv can't find it"

"Ah.Monsieur Eddie that will be a fine of 800euros plus 90 euros for speeding."  "You will have to come back to the police staion and if you cannot prove you have a driving licence you will not be allowed to take your van away until you have a licence." Cry

They faxed the dvla to check if he had a valid licence and let him go without the 800 euro finesome 2 hours later
