When to be in position for the start?

As a group of Le Mans "virgins", my group are wondering when it is best to get into a decent spot for the start of the race.

However, we are coming in by coach on the Saturday morning, so we may not get there till midday... would it be a lost cause trying to get a decent view by then? Or do some places fill up before others?

we usually watch the start at the dunlop-chicane right after the start-finsih-straight and go there about 1 to 1:30 hours prior to the start. No problem to find a good viewing spot there

Should still be able to get a space on the main pit straight terrace. Gets a bit crowded sometimes but the atmos is just the best!! A few tins and national anthems normally get everyone warmed up, then the Hawaiian Tropics are let loose and, well you can guess the rest can't you!

Anywhere is great to be honest. I watched my first start from the old run down from the Dunlop Bridge to the Esses (point where I was standing long since gone as part of the recent circuit mods), but the buzz as they all blast round on that first flying lap is unforgettable. Getting the old hairs standing up as I type and that was 22 years ago!!!

I would suggest you get to the start/finish line as soon as possible. we get there about midday with shed loads of cold beer. by 4pm we are very loud and ready for the big off.

Head for the outside of the circuit for the pit terraces or the past there up towards the Esses - get there for one-ish and be prepared with your refreshments, so you don't have to leave your spot - it gets crowded, but its great fun.  Enjoy
