Hi
I need some help finding a private campsite near the circuit. We will be at Karting Nord for the race but fancy a few days before the race somewhere a bit plusher with a pool ( as pools are now banned on  K N).
The last few years have been baking and so a 2 site trip seems like a good idea

You could look at www.eurocamp.co.uk and see if you can book a short break(with ferries - you dont have to travel end to end with the camping, you can extend it so that you come back after the race), they have sites in Normandy, Saumur and Tours which is either a stop off or a bit further on than LM but the facilities will be good.

Wow Ray, that's some post count you've got in the last three years  Grin

I think we're all hoping that the pool ban was for this year only and won't be continued for next year unless the weather conditions are the same.....

We've stayed at the Municipal Campsite at Spay which is a couple of miles from Le Mans.  It is by a lake but doesn't have a pool thought.

I've heard very good reviews of this place http://loire-gites.com/web/default.asp , the website shows they were building a pool for this year so it might be worth getting in touch with them.   Many French campsites are Municipal sites and I've not seen that many that have pools.

Happing hunting!

The municipal site at Beaumont sur Sarthe is a lovely site with a fabulous block sanitaire.  There isn't a pool on site, but there is one just outside the entrance gate to the campsite.

See next years CA Guide to LM - details will be in there.  The site is listed in the Michelin guide - only cost me €6.35 for caravan, one person and electric.

Del, I've seen good reviews of the Beaumont sur Sarthe site as well.  How far is it from Le Mans?

It's about 20 clicks from the northern limits of LM, where the motorway A11 crosses the N138.

Try Chateau de Chanteloup.  Real lap-of-luxury stuff (for a campsite!) 19ks North of Le Mans on the Mamers road.  www.chateau-de-chanteloup.com

I think we're all hoping that the pool ban was for this year only and won't be continued for next year unless the weather conditions are the same.....

I've got a feeling it's here to stay (and was never about weather conditions anyway).

For the weather conditions - no-one who lives in France that I have heard of expressing an opinion on the matter had heard of any hose/paddling pool bans anywhere in France at the time and I spied a goodly number in gardens on the bus back from Arnage/Mulsanne Sunday monring.

The thing that makes me believe the change in more perminent is the taps.  I can't have been the only one to notice the old faithful screw-threadded-easy-hosepipe-attachment taps in Houx had been replaced with nice shiny new pre-for-30-seconds-of-water types.  OK, these can be defeated by a man, patience and 10 bottles of '33' Export but...
