Thanks and also to all those who showed concern over the weekend.
For those that know him, Dave chased after a thrown stick which got stuck in the ground like one of those big spikes you see in the medievil films. The great dimwit somehow managed to pierce it through the back of his mouth, nasal cavity and soft palete into the base of the skull and spinal column. He's still in the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at South Mimms, which is the main teaching hospital of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I still haven't been allowed to see him but theoretically he'll be home on thursday.
Yes this did put something of a dampener on the Classic weekend, at least until they'd done the exploratory op and decided he was probably going to live.
Can I warn anyone who owns a dog that unless they want a bill for £3000 and a sh**t load of heartache - NEVER THROW STICKS FOR YOUR DOG. PERIOD! - Tennis balls dummies and a myrriad of other harmless toys are fine and are widely available from petshops. More importantly if you ever let anyone else look after your pooch I suggest you drum it into their heads too.

I have to say Andy it was most odd seeing you drinking tea on Saturday.  Good to see you get stuck into the cidre once you'd heard that Dave was going to be okay. Hope he's home with you soon. |

Andy,I am really sorry to hear about Dave. I remember meeting him at the Hatch Warren beer festival, (yes it's true folks he was there) and thought what a fine dog he was. I hope he makes a full recovery. It sounds as if he is in the finest place possible to aid the proccess.

Doris told us about the poor dog on Saturday - hope he gets better soon. Fair bit of empathy as our two were in kennels for the weekend.

I was truly sorry to hear about this - hope he makes a full recovery from an injury that is far more common than you might expect.
I must confess to having a soft spot for dogs - and Dave is a fine looking animal.
I just spent $500.00 having what turned out to be a benign growth removed from my German Shepherd's foot - but you don't hesitate with stuff like that - as you clearly show.
Wishing a speedy recovery.

Andy, as our chat at the Classic, glad and relieved to hear the prognosis for Dave Zarse has improved.
