Crossing to Le Mans

Out of interest, how did everyone cross the Channel to get to le mans,

the reason I wonder how many people made the trip. Because is it worth a call to the ferry companies to try and get a CA membership discount?

Saving us all money to spend on Beer, seems a good idea to me.

We used the tunnel.
Very good on the way out, but the return was manic.

Not enough people on the ground, unclear directions. but it was very quick and no delays getting off the train at either end.

Portsmouth - Caen. Expensive but still the best imo. Get some sleep as well.

speedcabins out on friday night 9:15, good as gold, only 15 mins or so late as i remember, nice in the dark as you could see the lights of blighty and france at the same time. Only cost £15 as well.

speedcabins back monday 20:20 i think it was, 30 odd mins late but no real problems. Again it was a fine old trip. it floated, went across the channel and all that sort of stuff i required.

we went Portsmouth/Le Harve   cheap crossing.  quite an old boat, but the bar was flowing and the food was quite good and not too overpriced!

First time on speedferries for me this year.... pretty much on time both ways.  A good giggle watching the geezers in their fancy motors fretting about loading up.... anyone can be big n brave on the motorway, but confined spaces sorts em out!

Speedferries for us and preety much faultless for the price £50 return.

Portsmouth - Caen route. Maybe the dearest but with the overnight crossing you can have a beer get some shuteye and get to the campsite at a decent time of day.

I'll be going out Pompey - Caen tuesday night next year as it shaves 100 miles off the journey frogside and the boat's loaded with CAers. Probably come back Cherbourg - Poole evening as we came back on 11.30am this monday and let me tell you it was a struggle as we left MB at 6.30am

Good luck ith the discount. The Portsmouth routes could fill theri boats twice over in le mans week, which is why they hike the price up.

We went out and back poole/cherbourg on the vomit comet 2hrs each way and 190 miles to L/M no drama cost £208  I think it was worth it cos I live ten minutes from the port

I travelled on the tinworm, but I didn't like it much (at all).

Very quick and clean but no soul.

I'd rather have a wobbly boat next time, even a "SpeedOne" with an engine "out".

Not long before the off I was offered a Pompey to Caen for £75, must have been a good buy for someone.

No mo' "Le Tunnel Sous Le/La Manche" fo' me!

I missed saying goodbye to you but only missed you by half an hour. 

If only you'd got up half an hour earlier then I'd have had a chance to say goodbye before I went to my tent!!

coach from London to Paris, with dover-calais crossing, then TGV to Le Mans.
Enough time on the crossing to drink 3 beers on the boat.
On return, TGV to Paris, coach to London via the Eurotunnel.  Stay on bus,
no bar.  Long delay at immigration.
