Well, that was an eventful start to the trip. 20 minutes into the journey to Portsmouth Harbour the altrenator seized in the van.

9.30 Problem discovered
9.32 Phoned AA
9.58 AA finally answer phone
10.00 AA say it will be about 1.5 to 2 hours
12.30 Still no AA man. Call them again, 21 minutes to answer this time!
12.51 Get told another 40 minues
02.45 Local recovery company arrive
03.15 Home, cold and pissed off!!

Will get a new alternator in the morning and get it fitted then try again tomorrow night!

Piss poor service from the AA - no doubt you weren't on their priority list - single mothers on the hard shoulder of the motorway  Roll Eyes

Bad luck with the alternator, fingers crossed for a trouble free second attempt.  See you there.

Like there were a lot of single mothers on the Motorway hard shoulder last night.   Not!

I would be talking to htem about a refund.  I mean 5 hours to respond.  You could have called  me and we could have changed the Alternator in that time.  (Well sourceing an alternator woulfd be tricky but youknow what I mean)

Are the AA govt organisation?

Which AA are you with? I called them last week, instant response on phone, van was out within the hour and I had two calls in addition to advise on approx arrival time. No i'm NOT a single female, before the sarcasm starts!!!

New alternator secured and fitted. Satrted up first time and all lights that shoudl work are working and warnng lights that I don't want to see are off so hopefully it shoudl all be OK.

Taking the 11pm boat from Pompey to Le Havre tonight instead now. Probably going to leave Basinsgtoek mid afternoon and get to Pompeya nd eat down there just in case we have a delay on the way down again though!

See you all there!!

Good news indeed Mark, take it slowly, keep the engine revs down, there's plenty of time and space.  FS

Good Luck Mark, at least you know not to bother taking the pool and save some load on the Vehicle  Cry (more room for Vino on the return trip).

If only it were that simple. I saw the van yesterday and the pool is buried miles from civilisation  Sad
