Vicar's Tea Party - you should see parts of Bridgwater 11.30pm on a Friday night.   Cheesy Cheesy

Good clip though - I vaguely remember it from the time, though didn't see it live.

I can't help but feel that a thick padded glove hitting a helmet, both of which are designed to protect against 120mph pucks, won't do any long term damage, if indeed it's even felt.  Undecided

I can't help but feel you're watching a different video?

Both gloves and helmets appear to be off in most cases on here. It seems normal practice for hockey players to shed these prior to fighting.

I don't think I would want to be on the end of too many of these...

Maybe it changes after the start but I only watched the first 10 seconds or so and they were certainly fully attired then!

I was chatting to a hockey umpire in Calgary a few years back. He told me that all umpires allow a certain amount of fighting as it releives a bit of tension and frustration which in turn may stop someone getting seriously injured.
The moment a stick is raised or the gloves come off they have to step in and stop it. He said a guy had been killed a few months earlier by a stick that was swung at him deliberatly. In the case of this video there were so many fighting all control of the game was lost.
I can't believe the crowd was booing, they got a lot more than they paid for. I would have paid good money to be in the crowd

My understanding is that there is an element of the old style wresting theatre about most of the ice hockey fights.. you have the goodies, baddies, booing, cheering and players whose sole purpose for being on the ice is to put on a fight... I watched a documentary about it a while back.... Roll Eyes

P.S.  I didnt see the granny with the handbag joining in tho... but didnt watch it to the end....
