The French introduce a law controlling employment, the local students riot in opposition to the law, the government then scrap the law.

Why can't we have that sort of government and democratic opposition here?

Aren't the French great?  Firstly they hold the biggest and best British motor race in the world, and then the people show the rest of us how to deal with unpopular politics.

NB: After my citizenship ceremony later this month I shall no longer be able to say the French are great because it's not the British way so I'm getting it in now.   Grin

I just love these current French riots; everyone's a winner in my book!

First you get to see a load of dull-mided, selfish, self-interested students (75% of whos' ambition it is to become a civil servant  Shocked) and the ranks of the "I'm alright Jacque" trade unionists get tear-gassed and their heads heads kicked in by the French CRS riot police . Secondly, you see the CRS having sticks and stones thrown at them which is good thing, obviously. And last but not least, you get to see the lilly-livered politicians eating humble pie and backing down in a craven and cowardly manner. You can't beat a bit of schadenfreud can you?

Does that mean we've finally relented and pardoned your ancestors for stealing a loaf of bread or a chicken!
Sounds like we should dedicate an LM drinking session to it in celebration (given that the drinking will happen anyway - should be to a good cause).
