The chancellor is very forgiving - he doesn't penalise for past sins, ie when you didn't know you were doing wrong!
So get rid of the newer car and clear your conscience.

Interesting isn't it. If you take your wealth out of the country you can take it with you without penalties, if you die and pass it to your family to keep it in the country, they become liable to 40% inheritance tax!  Angry

Sorry but its possibly a bit late in your case Ali, but others who have ageing relatives with assets over £250k should go to a solicitor and set up a Deed of Vairance, quite complex but avoides most of the inheritance tax.

That's not mugging !

Here in Belgium road tax is much more. A friend just bought a VW Touareg V10 TDI.
He payed 21% tax, an immatriculation fee of 3350,- pounds and an annual road tax of almost 2000, pounds.

Even for an average family car, let's say a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI, the annual road tax is around 350 pounds.

Suppose you buy a 20 year old V12 Jaguar, which you find in good condition for 3000-4000 pounds : the Belgian governement will charge you 2200,- pounds a year for the privilege.

In addition we have the highest fuel taxes in Europe.

Yeah, this really is car heaven !
