I am off to St Anton for a stag weekend, there are 10 of us going and none of us has been to this resort before. It is only a 4 day bash so we need to hit the ground running any advise on which bars or clubs to head for would be most appreciated.

Hiya Bob,

I was in St Anton for a double stag do a couple of years ago at this time of year. To be honest I can't remember any names of places at all...strange that!!
I can remember having an awfully good time though (apart from some boarders who got a bit lairy after a few too many drinks) I seem to recall us sticking to the main strip running through town, there were bars aplenty even at the end of the ski season.

There are vauge recollections of a nightclub heading towards the ski lifts that was particularly busy & contained women fully capable of appearing on the Girls Girls Girls thread!!

Most importantly have a great time out there, it's all in preparation for the main event in June!!

Typical boarder. See them all the time resorting to underhand methods to convince people they are cool.

Have a good one Robbo, I know I will.

Bob,

2 very good bars for 4 o'clock, on the last run back into town.
One is called "the Crazy Kangaruh" and "The Mooserwurt".

Both located at the bottom of red 23, about 200 mts from the bottom.

Be prepared to ski back from here into town after your session.

Apart from those, take your pick in town - there are dozens!

Have a good time! I'm off to Thailand tomorrow night for 2 and a half weeks.

Cheers.

Thanks Nigel, sounds good, the last 200 metres after a session has got to be tried. Have a good one in Thailand.

Chris, if I find the club you mentioned with the fit birds I will try to tag a couple with CA stickers. look out for photos.

Robbo this was most certainly not a slur on you or any other decent minded plank rider  Wink

It was only the 1% who always go out looking for a fight, they just happened to be boarders, it didn't put me off the apres ski, but I was crap at getting down them big hills!!

Seems to me the difference between boarders & skiers is like MB & HA... [ducks]  Grin

I was there a few weeks ago. The big club is the Picadilly. It's pretty good but again there were some areshole boarders out to cauise trouble. Fortunately a big German bloke smashed one of them in the face, which caused the rest to wind their necks in. There's a nice spanish style tapas place down the high street on the opp side, which is good and also the Cuba Bar if you want to watch any footy. In summary there's plenty of bars you won't be disappointed.

As for the skiing you MUST go up the Schindlerstitz and the Valluga. Then on the way home to the Mooserwirt, you can tame the Fang and the Kandahar, two world famous black runs.

Whilst we're on about winter sports, can Robbo enlighten me as to the general fascination with boarding? Sure, I can see the attraction at the halfpipe. Some of the tricks are totally awesome, so full repect to the talented youngsters who can do this stuff. And I can see the free riding thing off-piste. Again respect to those who can. But what I cannot in any way understand are the idiots who simply ride down a pisted slope. Why? Why? Why? It's pathetic! A skiing beginner with a weeks lessons under his belt can run rings round any of this lot in terms of speed downhill and around the corners. Boards ruin the piste quicker than anything else and many of the boarders both look and act like total twats. Why would anyone, let alone a fat thirty something copper from Pompey  Wink , want to be associated with that?

Fighting talk old bean

I havent yet hit the 30 mark, still 29 for another 10 months.....

ANd as for fat......

Boarding - In all honesty I cant SKI - I snapped my knee 5 years ago and the thought of a crash on SKI's twisting my knee isnt worth another 6 months in hospital.

So boarding is for me, safer, my knee's dont twist as they are strapped on top the board. Sop far i've been ok. I prefer the Booarders image as well, no ponce's from upper class back grounds with their noses half way up their backsides looking down.  Boarding seems a littl more relaxed.

As for speed, ski'ing will always be faster, but i'm not too slow abnd have seen some very fast boarders on the piste.... But its OFF PISTE that gets good, wioth a wider piece of wood to use, this is a tremendous buzz.
I'm not a real " I hate Skier" type boarders, each to their own. My sister is off for skiing lessons next month........

Oh and the chef is a skier, we are just deciding for next year, 10 days in Whistler or a week in Austria ?? - To celebrate our 30th birthdays.

Bob,

Don't forget to try out the runs on the other side of the valley.  I particularly remember a yellow diamond run which was sheet ice.  I stood at the top of it thinking, "I'm going to die."  Also over there is the speed trap that the Austrian ski team use when training.  Take your mates and see who can wipe out in the most spectaular fashion at the end of the run!

No question about it Robbo you gotta go to Whistler IMHO it is the best resort in the world, and I have been to quite a few North American reorts to compare it to. It was already changing last year with all the preps for the 2010 olympics and they were not changes for the better when compared to the 2 previous visits. Go before it is too late you won't regret it

Thanks Doris will do. I can see quite a few wipeouts happening. Skiing and stag weekends, not really meant to go together are they. Ah well I've got until June to Recover
