SMACK! Sebring '96. Southerland hit the concrete base at the walkover bridge heading down into the hairpin, snapped the Gearbox and rear suspension right off the Courage. The driver stood up, walked over to the Aarmco, climbed over, looked back at the car and dropped like a sack of potatoes. No wonder - look at the state of that tyre - no tread at all. Should have gone to kwik-fit...

It's not "Sebring" I know, but that photo of yours fax reminds of a couple of Porsches I've found up trees at LM. One would have been around 7 years or so ago when I dropped in at Mulsanne corner for a spot of nightime spectating and found a 911 up a tree behind the catch fencing. I don't know how he got there, and the marshalls were scratching their heads as how to get him down. I assume he was ok, but never did find out. The second time I found a porsche up a tree was again in the middle of the night, this time on one of the little country lanes that get close to the Mulsanne kink. It was pre chicane days, and a few people usually tried to park nearby and walk through the woods to the armco (I think there's a hotel there now). This time it was a little more grisly, - some fool in a black 911 had been playing chicken with another Porsche on the narrow lane, the black one took a glancing blow and got airborne before it landed in the crows nest. There wasn't a lot that could be done for him... H

Which brings us to Sebring '98... these two shots are from the fall race that year, it's only happened twice that I can remember. This race was the Panoz's only overall win with the coupe! -Lee Weaver in the Dyson Riley & Scott MkIII above and The Panoz below.
