A bit quite LM planning wise at the moment, but this question cropped up at the weekend.

We always use the carrfour a bit down from terte rouge along with almost everyone else. This leads to massive queues at the checkout. We have also used one futher along the straight and then to the left, quite a bit smaller but no queues.

We tried to find it last year without success and was wondering what the other possibilites shopping wise. We don't mind a bit of drive as long as its worth it.

Nordic, I guess it may depend on where you are camping and what shopping is needed?

I always end up in the supermaket at Arnage, the name of which escapes me, but it's the one at the northern end by the dual carriageway, has everything we need, not too far, very helpful staff.

Carrefour gets very busy by Thursday, and the meat is usually poor.  The KKOC choice is the other Hypermarche, Auchan on the other side of town, at the end of the N138.  Booze and meat are better.  Its a useful meeting place too.  From there, if you follow the ring road, then just before the Arnage turn off is a Champion.  I hear that some like it, but haven't been myself.  If you follow the road to Arnage from the Porsche curves and turn left one block before the High Street, you will find the Leclerc.  Pretty good but smallish.  Alternativly there is the one at Mulsanne (turn left at the roundabout rather than right).  Basic, but it has the advantage of a bakers and a chemist next door.

Now for the shopping list!   Beer steak beer wine beer bread beer peanuts beer pool beer

There's more than on supermarket in Arnage - see Giles map.  The Leclerc is off the page at the bottom http://www.swr2002.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/maps/lemans.jpg and see the useful information section of this forum!

Is that the Super U?  I went there for the first time this year.  (Those roadworks up by the Carrefour were just too much of a pain in the arse.)  Great supermarket.  Top wine selection!   Grin

It looks like...

... you forget to mention Leader Price, an hard discount store but quite clean with some choice and real bargain. It's located face to the Decathlon and Antares on the mulsanne straight.

And in june you'll have a little discount grocery store open in Arnage town centre, just faced to the town house, at 150 m of the main street.

The Super U in Arnage was actually cheaper than the Carrefor last year and there were much less people in there.

Theres also a massive leClerc to the North West which is very quiet. I'll have to find it on the map but basically head north out of Arnage, up through the industrial zone. Right at the top you go left at the roundabout and its along there. Its signposted and also thers an Aldi (or Netto or Lidl, can't remember which) for those who are parsimonious.
Went there a couple of times last year and it was empty. (leClerc that was)

It's the Allonnes Leclerc and just 50 m besides you'll find the "Palais de la Biere" and another 100 m further a Brico Depot warehouse wich really cheap electric wire, lights, basic stuff you may need to improve your campsite !!!

You it just struck me.   We spend an awful lot of time discussing Supermarkets on this forum.  Given that CA is predominantly a male centric forum I find that a bit odd.

I would guess most members couldn't direct you to a supermarket in good ol' blighty let alone be able to tell you which ones were least crowed had the cheapest or best selection of beer.

most odd.  But then is takes a certain type to go to Le Sarthe every June.

This has been covered before. the women folk like the stuff in the centre. We like the stuff at each end, i.e. angle grinders at one end, alcohol at the other, nuff said.

There was a mention of another supermarket several miles down from Mulsanne on the N138. Anyone know anything?
