It's that time of year again.

For those of you who live in the North Hampshire ,the Tempest Rally is being run at Aldershot,Yateley and Bordon areas on Friday 4Th  and Saturday 5th of November.

I have a plan of the stages at Longmoor near Bordon........which is apparently closed to the general public, but as a local the organisirs cannot stop you going onto the ranges to watch!!!!

Any body who wants a copy of the stages drop me a Pm and I can e-mail/Fax a copy.

It also runs through open forest (fast flat gravel tracks) near Yately, either side of the A303.  I shall be marshalling in Warren Heath, with runs about 11am and 5pm (in the dark).  This is fully open to the public, and I have last years stage maps if anyones interested.

And I'm sure its the 5th November, but check their website.  http://www.tempestrally.org.uk/

Thank god for the camping gear - I brew tea and cook bacon sandwiches in the boot of the car

Its not a bad day out, provided you don't mind sitting in the countryside all day waiting for it to get dark.  Sounds rather familiar, and an interesting experience sober.

My mate Phil needs all the support he can get after last year.  Them electonic diffs mean you can't push the car far.  I was knackered after 3 paces.  He was winnin' too

This is the last year that the Tempest will be part of the British Championship, and you last chance to see whatshisname in that Japanese thingy spray mud and pebbles all over the place.  Bit like the Ford Chicane at the end of daylight qualifying.  And you can smell it all too, as the actress said to the Bishop

The runs at longmoor are early Saturday morning and mid afternoon....so as we only lve a mile from the stages we can go home to warm up in between the 2 events.

Are you a member of the farnborough and district motor club?

Ian of the "Burgundy Beast" is safety officer at the Ash ranges stages.

Its a 15 minute drive for me from Reading, so we usually go to the pub.  Not in FDMC but I'm competition secretary of Craven MC in Reading.  I see Ian (and have beaten him) at Gurston Down.

I do like these events as you're so much closer to the action.  F1, (and more recently) Le Mans is too distant and too packaged

I will be attending the Friday evening part at Rushmoor as I live 5 minutes from there.  On Saturday I'm supposed to be working at home  but you can hear the event going on so if anything actually gets done I'll be suprised.

My days of marshalling [Hart MC] are over for the time being - on this event I can watch at Rushmoor/Long Valley, drive to Yateley, calling in at home for a cuppa on the way! I can even persuade the missus to drive me there and avoid the £10 for parking.

If you're out marshalling 'good on you'  I hope the weather is kind, & the sport is good.

Lets just hope that they get more than the 21 entries that the last round of the championship got, because the Historic cars are not boosting the numbers this time out. Dark times for rallying my friends Undecided

21 cars it is, plus 6 Land Rovers and about 50 in the Clubmans Rally which follows close behind.

Please support 112 Phil & Martin, 131 Rob & Bryan and 138 the Mills's, oh and Trevor & Ray in No 18 with the big boys
because its costing them a fortune.

One of the army guys manages to chuck the things round corners like its a mini.  Not bad for 2 tons and 80bhp

The land rovers are ace, the Jim Clark rally runs on tarmac and these guys were 3 wheeling around the hairpins, loads a comitment.
Also one rolled into a ditch in front of us in Langdale on the Trackrod last autumn, what was shocking was the language of the young lady co-driver, I have never heard such fowl language and I'm a northerner

Lorry,

Ian says how could you beat him.......as you both run in different classes at Gurston.

He says he cannot remember when you were competeing in the same class!!!!

The only other place where you would possibly be in the same class is Longleat!

He says you are running 36's at Gurston, which is a bit quicker than him as he only runs a 1300cc motor.........even though it is 180bhp.

There's a book about how to be successful in motorsport that says "put on your CV that you beat Johnny Herbert, even if it was only at cards."

Anyway, Ian cheats - he's taken the headlights off, and my car has been to Le Mans.  I'm sure he ran a Yellow one about 5 years ago, and he was always fractionally in front of me, then he bought the beast from Hillclimb Spice.  I have the car on an old video.

Back to thread - Weather on Saturday 30% scattered showers

Looks like the weather could be good, and with rain today the mud/gravel will stick together (or so I'm told).

This is going to be a good (but sober for some) day out, and dry enough to give some grip for the quick boys.
