I'm a llama!

Another question, this one may be a little harder to answer! We have paid extra every year for access to the Welcome area. The old roof top giving superb views of the pits and start/finish straight. Can anyone tell me if this building is part of the 'improvements' being made for next year? is it being taken down and if so do we know if the replacement will be some mega expensive corporate affair or can us mere mortals still gain access?

Thanks again....

Don't know if the building is coming down or not, but you havn't, up till now anyway, had to pay extra to go in there and on the roof if you have one of the main grandstand tickets.  You are allowed there after 6.00pm on saturday.

And you have to come down about three o clock on Sunday afternoon..

A fantastic spot for night photomatography too...

Long lines of streaking light down the straight, brilliant.

Gilles

Is the viewing area on the inside of Tetre Rouge still there now that they have re profiled the corner, or have we lost that as well?

The ACO site has images of all the 'improvements' posted now. Rather grim veiwing at the moment - but sure it will actually improve.

Gilles,- the Welcome building is still shown on the webcam! Maybe this is just an old image?

I sincerely hope they are not going to knock the soul out of the place and make it a sterile wasteland of hospitality suites and canvas concession stalls. There are a lot of good memories connected to the "old" village same as atmosphere in the old wooden tribunes. I agree with progress and improvment but surely the village wasn't that bad that it warrented such a radical change. Sure, the place needed to be traffic free but at what cost?

Too late I'm afraid Bob, those photos make grim viewing indeed, there is now nothing that remains of the track from when I first started going, -some have been changes for the better, but most have been poor calls if you ask me. Fair brought a tear to my eye looking at those pix. Ah well.

I quite liked the seediness of the surroundings, very evocative it was, and made a nights stagger around the place seem an adventure, but now the only bit of seediness that comes to mind is JPC's paddling pool.

Squeaky clean means no fun and having 'ze correct papers' I fear.

I'm assuming the web cam is correct and up to date.  Therefore, the old 'Dunlop' tower at the end of the pits appears to remain, but the 'Welcome Area' (the garden / restaurant / bar area) has been destroyed.

Judging by the autumnal colours, I'd agree with you Steve. Although I'm sure it's days must be numbered, if you look at the artists impressions of the new village on the ACO website, the old press building doesn't figure in the new plans. They look like they have a replacement planned for 2007, but I bet your average spectator won't have access to it.
I'll bet the ACO are wracking their brains trying to work out how they can sanitize all the campsites, discourage the likes of us, and keep the specating numbers up.
Personally, I'd rather sanitize all the toilets and keep the lactating numbers up, but you can't have everything.

I resemble that remark!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll have you know there were no seeds in our pool. A few nuggets maybe, or perhaps a couple of kernals. But no seeds!!
