Now I know we're all too excited about this years race but this story has just been posted up on the Autosport site, I just hope it sounds better on the track than the Taurus diesel powered Lola last year!! Smiley

***********

French car manufacturer Peugeot have announced ambitious plans to try and win the Le Mans 24 Hours with a diesel-powered car.

Following the decision to pull out of the World Rally Championship at the end of this season, Peugeot bosses have now set their sights on building a competitive diesel-powered sportscar.

"This is an extremely stimulating new challenge and I am convinced it will generate considerable interest throughout our staff and across our sales networks," said Frederic Saint-Geours, Managing Director of Automobiles Peugeot.

"I hope this ambitious yet completely achievable project will provide us with a fresh opportunity to demonstrate our ability to win."

Feasibility studies will be conducted during the first half of 2006, with the current plan being for the car to hit the test track before the end of that year. It is hoped that it will then compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours, as well as five rounds of the Le Mans Endurance series, in 2007.

Peugeot is no stranger to success in the Le Mans 24 Hours, having triumphed in the French classic in 1992.

Diesel??  Angry They have got to be pulling my pisser. It is a dead-end street in motorsport terms. I hope they never win. I loved the old Pugs in 92 and 93, they sounded glorious. But this will fart like the Caterpillar. An offical Curse of the Commer is in order.  Sad

Anyone know the reason why Pescarolo dropped Peugeot petrol engines and replaced them with Judd a couple of years ago?

Yes Steve, I do. It's simple. They were crap.

They would have been better off asking an engineer who pours flaming zambucca down his own collar to design their engines. What were you playing at???

They have actually been racing Peugeot Diesel cars for a couple of seasons now in a one make championship.

Could be a possibility.

I wish I was at Le mans  I wouldn't be replying to threads like this.
