Just wondering if anyone can help my convoy out.

One of us has a GPS & laptop setup that we are contemplating using for avoiding "problems" on the way down to LM (& back up again) this year, seeing as how I would prefer to keep by Bel Euro550 Roll Eyes

Does anyone know of any web-sites or has a recent(ish) database of gendarme speed trap locations in France?? Preferably free ones!! Wink

Chris

Be aware that if you get stopped by the Gendarmes (for anything) and they see anything remotely like a speed-trap detector, they will rip it out and use it for target practice, as well as removing many hundreds of euros from you!

Your call

I think that more applies to radar / laser detectors (I've heard they make you drive over it) but surely where something has other legitimate uses (like navigating) and isn't explicitly about detecting speed traps I think you'd be OK.  Anyway, French Police rely mainly on mobile traps so a GPS system is next to useless.

Use your eyes and your head.

Try this
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

and I'll try and find an updated french one. I've got one from last year for starters.

I'll also point you to this

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6879&highlight=

and

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=49

Which was what I used last year to get the French data base and as you have reminded me, will be using it again.

Cheers

Cheers for the help guys!!

I'll get my mate to have a look at them Stu see if it works with his setup!!

I was aware of the problems with the radar/laser detectors but they can't complain about a laptop for "navigation" (it will be the drivers first trip to LM & he is driving a slower car) Grin

The mapped French radar traps hardly apply. They are linked to a central system which will probably ignore UK registered cars. It's the mobile traps which will catch you.

I spoke to Sander from planetlemans today, and it seems a general warning should go out to all Le Mans visitors this year. Apparently the police is running short of cash, because they are surveying all major roads to and from Le Mans for the next fortnight. Even the guys from Racing for Holland got fined, even though they only did about 150 kph (90 mph).

Be Warned!!

There is a fixed camera immediately before the ROuen tunnel, it's the only fixed one I spotted last weekend. I only spotted it cos it flashed me...  Undecided
