My new car arrives next week.

Nothing special just  Laguna.  But it has a GPS.
If it's any thing like one that was in my Mundaneo it will only know about the UK.
For France you need a separate CD.  Of course I don't need the GPS to find my way to Le mans but one the way back I might make a detour. So it could prove handy to have.

So does anyone have CD I could borrow for the trip?

I just hope the GPS is better than the one in Mondaneo.  That was cr*p.  It was a factory fit job by Visteon.  The final straw was when it gave a route from Midhurst to Reading.  I asked for the Fastest route and it gave me a route that required a one junction trip along the M3.   So I then asked for a "Shortest Route"  thinking it would cut out the M3 bit and just use A roads.  Oh no  it came up with down the M3 to the M25 round the M25 to M4  down the M4 a route that was half as far agian.

Now I can understand the Fastest may not be the Shortest.   But Shortest can't be further than the Fastest.

So I got the dealer to remove said piece of Junk and give me the money back.  :-)

Tom, what manner of SATNAV is fitted to your Le Mans Mobile?  I may be able to help you out.  Peter

It's kinda against my religion to pay the prices they ask.  You can buy paper maps that are quite adequate for a few pence.  But GPS CDs are may be £50 so there is no cost justification for getting one.

If I got totally lost I would never burn £50 worth of fuel.

Even if you try to build in time cost it still doesn't seem worth the money.  Not for 15 days of motoring which is all I'd do in France in the next three years.

I noticed a while ago tha tyou can get the phone book on CD.  But you have to pay for it. (Big time)  It would be cheaper for them to supply the phone book on CD and it might even be be more environmently friendly.  But no they want to charge an arm and a leg.

The best way for getting back from Le Mans is to break down and have the relay bring you home.

Saves,
           Money (if its under warranty)
You can drink on the way home
           Fuel!!

Well it's a leased car so if it breaks it's the leasing companies problem.

Done Le Mnas in a Rented Car a couple of times.  Had to find a dark corner to leave it in the Rental return at Paris CDG.  It was covered in Radio Le Mans Stickers and dust in side and out.

My car at Sebring had had half the interior lining ripped out (to retrieve the key when I locked it in the boot) and had also been damaged by a careless parker in Daytona.

I bodged up the lining so it looked OK when the roof was down, delivered it back to the rental company topless (the car, not me!) and told them I was in a rush, and I've never heard any more. Nor any charges on the credit card.

Now that reminds of the guy at work that got though 3 cars in four hours.  At Nice.
The first one was hit by a Shutle Bus while still in the Airport.
The second he stopped at a red light on the road to the Hotel and some one ran in the back of him.
The third he put in the barrier in the tunnel under Lowes Hotel in Monaco.    They still gave him a fourth car.

Well it arrived.  Totally different the to one that I test drove.
The GPS has DVD with a complete European Map.  It has even has Karting Nord on it.  :-)
Other additional features I did know I was going to get.  :-

Automagic Handbreak.  Comes on when you switch off the engine. Releases when you start to drive.  Though this means you can't turn off traction control and sit there with the hand break on and get the tyres smoking.

Bluetooth built in hands free.  You can down load your phonebook to the car.
Light and wipers come on automagicaly.

Voice commands for the GPS and for the phone.

Oh yes and a six speed box.

One of our team had a CD/GPS system in his Range Rover, and had the choice of either a CD covering all of the UK, or one covering southern England and (in less detail) Western Europe.
