Don't you agree, Mrs Murhellmurhey?

Probably right.  But what is this wonderful Dutch lager that is being shipped in bulk?

Real Heineken does seem better than most Frech brews so this must be special.

I do recall some very cheap Royal Dutch Post Horn lager we had at Brands Hatch for the 1000Ks.  Tasted like we were the second to drink it, but it was only 30p a tin

Ain't nothing special to us, but having lived in the UK for a few years I can easily admit the Dutch stuff is very different (and better) from the stuff brewed elsewhere. For all Dutch our Heineken is just for mass consumption, and that's what we're taking it for Grin

Wow, those are more like Aldi-prices. Don't think it has anything to do with Holland though Smiley

Thanks.  I was worried that Heineken was considered rubbish by the locals.  Certainly the Danes don't like Carlsberg, but neither do I.

As for Royal Dutch, its too cheap for Aldi.  I'm more concerned that it may have caused a national disgrace, and occaisionally I claim to be Dutch

This should be a serious thread.

What are the preferences between Kronenberg, Kanterbrau, Heineken, 1664, Stella, 33 etc

Or is it a case that as long as its cold it doesn't matter?

This must have been discussed at length somewhere.

Moped boy can comment on Shandy Bass v Topdeck Shandy, which for a time was stronger than Watney's Red Barrel, so legend has it

In general life Stella from 330ml bottles is excellent (ideal for posh UK barbecues). It all tastes pretty much like piss in pints, I'm a cider drinker in the UK (on second thoughts that tastes more like piss than lager - perhaps I just like piss  Undecided )

When it comes to La Belle France I think you'll find that anything will do and it all tastes the same in 25cl bottles as long as it is as cold as modern camping technology will allow. There's only enough for two swigs in one of those bottles anyway.

As long as the alcohol content hovers around 5% I'll take anything, just don't try any of this 3.5% business  Tongue Shame they don't do diamond white in small bottles  Wink

Brand of beer has been a long discussion at our group last year. Some people wanted Grolsch, some wanted Alfa, Hertog Jan, Heineken and even Dommelsch was mentioned.
As for us it's a matter of supply. Last year I stuck to Heineken, basicly because Heineken is for the masses. And mass-consumption is our aim. Not that I get the stuff for free, but a mate of mine -beerman, he's coming aswell this year- runs an off-license (handy friend Wink) which means I can get all 50-litre barrels on a pay-at-return base and without a deposit.

Try and beat that Grin

personally i'd just go with the cheapest they have - usually 33 export or something. its 2 euros a case cheaper and when you've had 20 bottles you cant tell the difference between stella/kronenbourg and the cheap stuff anyway.

buying cheaper allows you to buy more. but i have a sneaky suspicion that we'll end up with kronenbourg anyway

Bloody students!  Wink

The cheap stuff is generally low ABV, low taste and looks pretty much the same in the bottle as in the urinal.

Myself, as I'm an Officer and a Gentleman, it can only be a cold .........

Calm down dear, it's only a website.

The point is, Moped boy my lad, is that you are conversing here with a load of seasoned, top-league, hardened drinkers. We have been there, seen it, drunk it and fallen over it since before you were even so much as a twinge in your dad's groin.

People on this famous forum have been shot at, arrested, chased down the street and across fields, chased by gays with no trousers on through the woods, broken limbs, fallen into ditches, been stripped naked, had their genitals written on, ended up in hospitals, thrown out of pubs, clubs, bars, chemists, casinos, McDonalds and all manner of other establishments, been found upside down in wheely bins, thrown up all over themselves, shat themselves, pissed themselves  and goodness knows what else, all as a result of drinking. And that was just at pre-qualifying. I myself have been known to drink enough to kill a goat.

Thusly we are hardly likely to be impressed with the drinking yarns of a fourteen year old three-pot screamer. What I am trying to say, in the nicest possible way, is that you should not be trying to teach your Grandmother to suck eggs. Or your Grandfather how to drink beer.

That said, your presence on the forum is most welcome, and quite you clearly have the makings of very fine Le Mans (note spelling!)  material in the years to come. Think of it like being in the "Liverpool Bootroom", your apprenticeship. Certainly if you persevere and learn from your elders and betters, with any luck you'll have threadveins on your nose and acid reflux disease by the time you're thirty. Stick with it, watch and learn and know your place in the pecking order and my son, someday you shall be Alpha Male too.

Salut!  Wink
